Actually, liberals are smarter.
by osa

Here's why: people who go to college are, on average, smarter than people who don't. Again, I'm just talking about averages, here. My Dad didn't go to college, but he could talk circles around many who did.

Anyway, once these smart people go to college, they are subjected to liberal indoctrination, while those who do not go to college are spared this experience.

One might ask why it is that college professors are universally liberal. The answer lies in how academics achieve success. The old adage "publish or perish" is basically true. You get tenure by publishing. And how do you publish? Not by defending the time-honored wisdom of the ages, but by saying what has never been said before, by pushing the envelope. In other words, the more radical you are, the more likely you are to get published, and therefore the more likely to become a tenured professor.

Once these radical professors get their hands on our brightest young people, they mold them into liberal clones of themselves. Conservative students hold to and defend their point of view do so at their academic peril. A grade-conscious student is better off following the left-wing party line on campus.

As far as being willing to consider new information is concerned, try showing a die-hard liberal the voluminous evidence that whites are, on average, smarter than blacks. Liberals will never change their mind about racial egalitarianism no matter how much evidence you show them. Nor will liberals ever believe in the global threat of jihad. They'll keep insisting that terrorism is caused by American foreign policy, even when we change our foreign policy and they keep killing us all the same, or when Osama bin Laden releases a tape "inviting" Americans to convert to Islam.

My son always said "You can educate yourself stupid." I agree with him! Thus, liberal professors have done so!

The sad fact of the situation is only really loosely associated with political ideology. In terms of higher education, the most important lessons that can be learned are how to get along with other people in the real world (or at least something like the demands of the real world) and the ability to be a wiser consumer of information. Those lessons are not being learned by many people in college today for reasons that are really too lengthy to address here. If more people were able to get these concepts as well as get a decently rounded education, then it seems unlikely that such a polar political system as we have could exist. Truthfully, there is nothing wrong with middle ground. Extreme views are something we ALL have to worry about. If you go too far left, you get Communism, which for all it's lofty ideals, doesn't work since people are basically horrible to each other. If you go too far right, you are pretty much a Nazi (this also because people are horrible to each other.)
