i endorse the "geezers" migration
by baltimore aureole
+5 Reply

in a post below we've been informed that there's been a mass exodus of (certain posters) from BOTF to the "geezers" fray.

actually, i endorse this move.

although fray was created to foster a diversity of viewpoints, its clear that there are a cadre of people who are intolerant of diversity, and wish to maintain strict segregation.

this should be encouraged.

those who are intolerant of others and wish to isolate themselves forom all viewpoints they don't already agree with are a scourge on this earth, whether they're racial segregationsists, religious segregationists, or philosophical/political segregationists.

go play by yourselves alone, if you're intolerant of others.

But to be expected. You can't expect these lovesick old ladies to stand idly by while their poor precious darling boy is being so meanly attacked by big mean-spirited meanies. It's too much to bear.

So off they flounce (as well as can be managed with so many artificial hips) and form their own little club, where they can hear only sweet and lovely things. And ask about each others grandkids, or whatever they do.

Well said. As I posted to Gatewood, those folks deserve a place where they can tell each other how wonderful they all are; giggle and oooh and ah over each other's offerings; stroke egos and have their egos stroked in return; pat a back and have a back patted; and not have to be troubled with the truth.

An observation can be made here. In the dark days of the Bush administration, and subsequently when the election was lost, I stayed here and took the heat and the ridicule, the catcalls and the snickering, smirking, abuse. I fought back.

Now that their guy has fallen so far in the polls that he has to look up to see down, they cannot stick around and contend for their faith.

BOTF....Power to the People.

It certainly is beginning to look like the Emperior has no clothes on.

I think we have exhausted each other over time...

Personally, I no longer feel compelled to explain myself in any depth at all on this board. After years of trying and watching others try, not a single person here has shown any inclination to change their minds on substantive issues at all. So, it comes down to this:

I am right because I said so.

When all is said and done, this sums up all political debate. When you have burned everything around you, you must set yourself on fire....

Oh for God sakes...

you guys are making a lot more of this than it actually is, or ever was. A couple of posters began posting on another fray, and several posters here (tempo, et al) have made a huge deal about it - turning it into an idiotic "us vs them" thing, attaching all kinds of sinister and negative motives and reasons to it, becoming affronted by it, insulted, making all kinds of noise - wtf? If you really don't care about it, then stop all this nonsense, stop turning it into such a big deal.

They can start up a knitting circle. I also hear he's in the market for doilies.

Just remind them to mind their manners over there. If I start seeing little discreet insults attached to my name or anyone I like, then I will come over there and fuck it all up for them.

If they all stay in their cocoon, they just might become butterflies one day.

But it's more fun to turn it into a big deal. After all, this is just a game. If you can't have fun, why come here?

I prefer to stand my ground and slug it out with the non-thinkers but I perfectly understand the mindset of people too weak to compete on a level playing field in regards to intellectual pursuits or high impact emotional issues.

Some people get VERY upset when everybody does not agree with them. It is probably best that such hot house flowers migrate to a place with a more temperate and gentle environment suited to their delicate sensibilities. Burp!

Although their little thought community might actually thrive – since anything is possible -- these utopian society things usually fail to survive in the long run and this is because they tend to exclude the very people who they need to keep things stirred up to a certain extent. Thus the members continue to grow intellectually stale and they produce only boring posts and their founding members begin drifting away with the best of intentions; promising themselves that they are going to return and make a go of things . . . but they never do.

I looked them over, and boring and mutual butt-patting pretty much sums the project up in a nut shell. They are a little sorehead group with bruised feelings attempting to create a posting paradise for themselves because over here some few people are playing too rough in regards to real world issues.

Really, it is for the better that they have migrated and are now in a much better place.

They think they are bohemians sipping expresso, smoking Gauloises debating existentialism in a left bank brassiere in the early 1900's when in fact, this place is like a Greyhound Bus Depot near UC Berkeley.
You seem to be lost

topazz. For a mutually swinging good butt-slapping time go to the Geezers <link> board. You KNOW you want to. I am sure that your invitation simply got lost in the mail.

Woolley, your sum total

argument has been that anyone adamantly opposed to Barack Obama or his policies is a racist. That sort of closes the debate door then and there. So piss off.
Precisely Jack.

Fighters stand their ground. Whiners cry out for rules changes, on the other hand, when the going gets tough.

I recall the crap that conservatives took on this board and dealt with for day after day and then year after year and that is because I was one of the primary shit slingers for the Left back then. Hell I enjoyed fighting conservatives because they WOULD fight back and give punch and kick for every punch and kick that they received. They made me work for my victories and they really made my defeats hurt.

Liberals? Bah! On the whole they are very disappointing as opponents when they are in the defensive posture, protecting THEIR president or his policy decisions from the slings and arrows of outrageous reality.

I am not the least bit surprised that our hot house flowers segment of the BOTF community picked up their chalks and marbles and flounced off in a group huff.

The problem, of course, is that now they are stuck entertaining one another and we all have an idea of how well that is going to work out. Boring doesn’t even begin to describe the inevitable results.

Not really.
by Woolley

But if you say so, it must be true. I just made the obvious point about the tea baggers that most of them are racists. So are most Fox News fans and most of the south. Other than that, most folks are just plain folks. As for your posts, you could argue quite convincingly that anything the left has to offer will find you in a state of apoplexy resulting in some form of over the top nonsense based upon your own equally valid claim of:

Gatewood is right, Woolley is wrong.

So, in case you did not get the point of my post, arguing politics is a zero sum game.
