The Nobel Committee is hoping that they can influence President Obama to act as they think he should in the world arena because he receives the Nobel Peace Prize. They are also hoping that he will achieve something of note in the area of peacemaking to make himself worthy of the award. They are invoking "Disney's Law"...hoping and wishing will make it come true.
After 8 months, the jury is still out on whether President Obama will be a good president or a weak one, a hero or a goat. His achievements are nascent for a few things and nonexistent for most everything else. Even after his time in office is over and all his actions in office are known, it may be years or decades before we will know whether the result is good or bad. All of us, presidents included, are measured by results, not hopes and wishes. Disney's Law is a false law.
I hope he refuses the award for the sake of the country. There will come a time during his tenure when he must act in the best interest of the country and Constitution he has sworn to uphold in a way that the Nobel Committee would not approve. He might have to undertake an act of war. If he has accepted the Nobel Peace Prize, he will be less able to do what he must do when that time comes. I hope he refuses the award, for his own sake, if nothing else. It would be the greatest demonstration of his personal and political character that he could make.
