My hobby is restoring things. I restore, furniture, battle rifles, motorcycles, power tools, you name it. I find the art of restoration to be a constructive act that brings life back into something that has a full history behind it. I somehow feel a connection to that history and a sense of renewal.
The Hondas from the 70's are very well made bikes, fun to ride, easy to restore, appealing to the eye. Honda's have received the lion's share of the press, which I feel is unfair, as there are so many bikes from that era that share an equal amount of history, performance, design, and value. I've restored a couple 3 of them, and always sell them for exactly what I paid +10%. In all but one that was a loss for me - but I don't really care one way or the other. Money wasn't the point, the restoration was.
It's not all roses and wine though. I've broken my body against some of those bikes and will bear the scars for a long long time. That's alright, sometimes getting the history from something can be a painful learning process.
