You have the option of not looking at them.

Because people insecure with their beliefs need to put up lots of symbols and go around trying to convince everyone else to agree with them.

I don't care what they put up but for them to deny people of different beliefs to put up there symbols it's wrong.

There is nothing more pathetic than a flag-waving moron who sports Stars and Stripes underwear. May as well make American Flag-styled toilet paper and celebrate the patriotism of your filthy ass.

That cross has been there for almost a century to honor individuals who gave their life so you can insult them anonymously in your PJ's.

In my son's kindergarten class, they teach children to be "bucket fillers" and not "bucket emptiers". Brit, when you post, I get the impression that your M.O. is to go and poke holes in everybody else's bucket.

How's that for pathetic?

Actually, it hasn't. There's been a cross there for around 80 years, but as it weathers, they replace it. How about the next time, we replace it with a Star of David? That'll still be honoring the dead.

Heh, kswiger! Now THAT is a hilarious reversal. Think Scalia would approve of use of that generic grave marker? I myself wouldn't mind marking Scalia's grave with a Muslim star and crescent.

Here is an article about a US Wiccan soldier's grave being marked by a pentagram. Would there be any objection if that symbol took a turn as the generic grave marker of soldiers?

The Japanese have temples that are wood that have been standing for a thousand years, as they rot, the wood is replaced. Since no original wood remains, does that mean they don't have a sense of permanence? No, only our memorials are meaningless, right?

Your analogy is only apt if they tear the temples down to the foundations, and completely rebuild them. Is that, in fact, what they do? Or are you talking about replacing just a portion of the wood at any given time?

A more apt question would be, if a building burns to the ground, and they rebuild it, is it the same building?

I agree--problem solved.

And a Star of David for Scalia's headstone, while we're at it. What? It's just a symbol. Hey--we're honoring you, Scalia!

Chirp chirp chirp....

Sound of crickets as we await a response from kgswiger....

Sorry, I didn't think the question was directed solely at me. As far as I'm concerned, I've got no beef with putting a pentagram, or whatever religious symbol the family wants, on a soldier's tombstone.
Re: symbols are cheap

Sorry, kgswiger, but your analysis is B.S. According to you, all they have to do is maintain it more often so that less than 100% of the cross needs to be replaced each time.

Not so fast, kegswigger. Here was the question:

Here is an article about a US Wiccan soldier's grave being marked by a pentagram. Would there be any objection if that symbol took a turn as the generic grave marker of soldiers?

And here was your answer:

kgswiger:
Sorry, I didn't think the question was directed solely at me. As far as I'm concerned, I've got no beef with putting a pentagram, or whatever religious symbol the family wants, on a soldier's tombstone.

Please note that your answer does not fit the question. The question is this: if a soldier did not identify a religious preference on his or her dog tags, would it be peachy keen with you to have a Wiccan or Hindu or Moslem or Buddhist or Jewish symbol on his or her headstone?

Think before you answer.
