The Obama Effect
by DallasNE

Oh no, right wingers aren't going to like this one little bit. America has climbed from seventh to first as the most admired country in the world in just the last year according to Reuters. <link> There is only one possible reason for this and it is the Obama effect. The world loves Obama. So why are Republicans gleefully jumping over a cliff with their "death panel" and other obscene attacks. I have never seen this kind of self-destruction before.

By the way, I want a reasonable Republican opposition. Unchecked power always leads to corruption and unless the Republicans can get their sea-legs back we will witness Democratic corruption - though surely not as bad as Jack Abramoff and all of the other corruption uncovered.

The world loves him because they know they can do anything they want to do to us with almost complete impunity. They love him because he apologizes for America, because they know he won't fight for anything.

They love him because he is a total embarrassment to the United States. Obama is a laughingstock. The world is laughing its proverbial ass off at him and at us for electing him. They love him because they know that, left unhindered, Obama will weaken this country to the point that it may never recover.

But you're not a total dumbass, you know all that already.

I think we jumped to number one again because the country elected a man of color. That is indeed the one thing I do like about the fact that Obama was elected. Electing a man of color makes us look good to those abroad. That's a good thing. Has a positive effect on America's image, overall. As to Obama personally, I have no such particular admiration ,personally. I hope he proves himself an effective leader. Time will tell on that note, one way or other.

It's settled then. The Olympic Committee
by Gatewood

definitely refused to give Barack Obama the Chicago Olympics because they are all racists. That's the only possible explanation since the entire world LOVES Barack Obama.

Those damn Olympic Committee racists!

President Obama still has a number of disasters to handle first, all of them inherited from the dolt who preceded him in the White House.

Actually, it was due to athletes refusing to comply with our new "Homeland Security" rules for those wanting to enter this country. Some people would like to keep their credit records and the pattern of their irises private from our FBI and CIA. Go figure, eh?

South America had never hosted an Olympics and the pressure was on to end that embarrassment.

The poll was on most admired nation.

It looks like that deal with Russia is now starting to pay off. Iran has been blinking on nuclear inspection teams of late. Hillary Clinton gets credit for this as well. Now the focus turns to Afghanistan where Biden has been playing a large role. I can't help but to be impressed by what I am seeing.

Thanks for responding Jack.

Too bad blue dog Senators don't feel that way about him.

He could have been basking in the glory of a nationalized health care system by now if they had.  Left wingers aren't going to like that one little bit.

Cosmetically, Obama is a great improvement from the buffoon Bush, who was universally disliked and mocked. But fundamentally, Obama has been afraid to decisively act and has taken advice from the same sort of people who advised Bush. There has been much less change than we bargained for...and need, IMO. It's true that the Republicans are so "out there" that they have lost much support when they bash Bush for being a Marxist-Leninist when he is to the right of Clinton and Carter, and I agree the nation badly needs a GOP with at least some credibility. The Dems are in danger of turning smug if not corrupt.

Hi Dallas,

I too would like to see a strong conservative party representing the millions of right of center moderates across the country. As the Republicans are bent on self-destruction, perhaps a new party needs to be formed, one that stands for the old Republican verities of small government, political power decentralized to the states and ultimately to the individual, fiscal restraint while meeting America's societal needs, and so on. Perhaps some centrist Democrats should form a new Centrist Party. Oh well, it's an idea.

Sorry I haven't been around of late. Been too busy scraping together a meager living. I trust all is well with you.
