A 7.6 magnitude earthquake just outside Padang two days ago.

A 7.9 magnitude earthquake a bit south of Padang last night.

A major earthquake and tsunami in Samoa.

Hope all Fray readers are not deeply impacted by these.

Hi E, the earthquakes have been horrendous. I’ve lived through a few. During the Northridge Quake I lived on the 22nd floor in Downtown LA in one of those buildings that was built on rollers. Whoa, that was a wild ride and a long hike up and down the stairs since the elevators were not working. I consider myself fortunate and feel for those less fortunate, thanks for the post.

My wife's aunt lives in Padang (my wife was born there). We have no idea if she is ok and probably won't until basic services are restored which could be some time.

That’s a tough position to be in E. I’ve been in a similar situation. I hope she is safe.

We found out this evening she is apparently safe and somehow managed call her daughter (who contacted my mother-in-law). Don't ask me how she managed to call out. That is a mystery to me.

Prayers go out to those affected for safety and where needed comfort and strength.

They also go out that this serve will wake up the doubters around the world. But then we already know that it will not.

I have experienced many earthquakes but never considered them to be much of a threat. I, too, hope that no fray readers have been impacted, but I also pray for the safety and survival of those people who were impacted. My heart goes out to them.
