the heat in iraq?
by armywife99

I've been reading the posted comments from your article and I think you stepped on a few toes. Make that a lot of toes, including mine! My husband is in Iraq defending the very freedoms you have to post such an absurd article. Until you have walked a few miles in the shoes of every single one of the military personnel that are in the fight in Iraq, Afganistan, etc.....I suggest you choose a different subject to write about. My husband explains it to me as putting on your winter parka and standing in front of an industrial hair dryer in the middle of the hottest place on earth and trying to function and not get killed. Oh and by the way, the battle rattle they wear doesn't weigh 30 pounds. It weighs 70 and they added 10 more pounds of armor plating to that before he went! I hope you can come up with some new stupid thoughts while you drink your coffee this morning!

I agree with armywife99. You have no idea of what you are talking about. The military is not stupid we know that the thermometer absorbs heat from concrete and sand that is why we use the WBGT or haven't you heard of this device? "This meter is designed to measure environmental conditions that may produce unacceptable levels of heat stress in enclosed areas such as kitchens, machinery rooms, boiler rooms, galleys, and etc. The WBGT meter measures Dry Bulb, Wet Bulb and Globe Temperatures in the range between 65 and 165 degrees F and computes the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature Index in the same range. The meter can be hand-held or mounted on a standard tripod" This is where the military gets their info from about how hot it is outside. This is also in wide use by the civilian community so it is not antiquated or some cheap thermometer that you grandmother had in her kitchen. Give us a little credit. If someone says it was 130 then it probably was if it came from a military source. However if it came from the press...Well we know how you guys exaggerate about every single thing and try everything to drag down this administration. So do some research before you open your mouth.

Wow, all I can say is....wow. You are really off the deep end my friend. If you bothered to read the article you would see that they DID do some research. They got scientific data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration that shows the all time highest temperature in Middle East was 124 degrees. Why on earth you took this statement of fact as an insult to the troops baffles me. No one doubts they have to deal with incredibly difficult conditions there. Is it any less impressive that they must do a tough job in 120 degree temperature vs. 130? I don't think so...but apparently you do. What really bothers me is that you seem to think that anyone who questions a fact reported about Iraq is attacking the troops. I sugest to you that anyone who DOESN'T ask questions about this war is hurting the troops far more.
