"Pro Choice Progressive"
by Bentoniani

Mr. Saletan uses the word pro-choice "progressive" at the end of his article. And it makes me want to rethink my pro choice position. I thought you didn't like that word William!

"I also hate the word progressive. It manages to be arrogant and meaningless at the same time, as though anything the left wants to do is a good idea. I suppose it's no more arrogant than values, the Republican buzzword for whatever conservatives want to do. "

Ooooooh. You caught me.

I was in a mood to be nice. I do have a bias for calling people what they prefer to be called, and in the context of subsidized health care, progressive feels more apt than liberal. Maybe I'll have to rethink it.

Why is progressive arrogant and meaningless? When talking about politics a progressive is someone that wants laws to change as the culture or society changes.

You mention 'values' and that is the exact opposite of progressive. Someone with a values agenda want to keep society from changes and thus pass laws to keep values from changing when a progressive either removes laws to reflect changes in values or pass laws to push changes.
