WTF?
by haulinsacs

...was my reaction as I read the last paragraph of Liberal Interpretation:

"In fact, that's exactly what you've done in this study: You've manufactured a tiny world of letters, half-seconds, and button-pushing, so you can catch us in clear errors and keep out the part of life where our tendencies correct yours. And now you feel great about yourselves. Congratulations. You haven't told us much about our way of thinking. But you've told us a lot about yours."

because it brought to mind an article I remembered reading a while back, Rights and Wrongs from July 13, in which the last paragraph states:

"That's what I told the liberals last night. And you know what? They listened, asked questions, challenged me, admitted uncertainties, told me some things I didn't know, and gave me new problems to think about. Everything was open for debate: agreement, disagreement, and doubt. As long as it stays that way, I'll be one of them. I think."

Liberal? Conservative? Will the real William Saletan please stand up?

Of course, maybe Saletan feels (as I do) that he borrows so many different positions from both sides (as I do) that he can't reliably be called liberal or conservative. In that case, he probably should call himself neither. Instead, he seems to call himself a liberal when among liberals, and a conservative when defending conservatives. Then again, some of you have no doubt been reading Saletan for much longer than I have, and you will delight in broadening my understanding of his self-descriptions.

Meh...just thought it was interesting to have claimed to be both in the span of two months.

P.S. I know this was a non sequitur post. I know you know, and you think only you know, but I know, and now we know that we both know, you know?
