I don't know what segments you've been watching, I don't watch him very often myself. I do agree that he can get weird sometimes, not your conventional talk show host.
But, that being said, he has raised issues and points that have been found to have legs and resulted in changes, charges dismissals and discharges. To that there is no argument that can be made. How overall effective he might be, I can't say.
He is credited with instigating the gathering in the Swamp this past Saturday. Turned out a lot of folks. Some fringe, but in the main, mostly just average Americans who paid their own way and made their own signs. In fact my daughter went down to see what the crowd was really like and her conclusion was that overall it was a well-behaved group with some fringe folks with signs and slogans that were not indicative of the vast majority. Of course those are the ones who garnered the most media attention.
I get a kick out of all the pundits who make claims about the size of the gathering. I think it ranges from around 30,000 to over a million. I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure, from the pictures I've seen in the media (what little coverage there was considering the size), that there were well in excess of 100,000 in attendance. Not too shabby for someone who's "certifiably crazy".
Just because he doesn’t fit your mold of how someone on a show like that should conduct himself, I’d suggest you consider the issues and substance, for good or bad, and not the style.
