Hitchen's Ignorance I Wish We All Had
by AdamSonOfJohn
It's somewhat rare when I disagree with Hitchens, but I partly have to in this case. She's a spoiled brat and I assume she was in her right mind (as 'right' as it can be) at least once or twice when she went for a night on the town pantiless and smiling-vertically for the camera. In Hitchens defense, I'm rather glad he's clueless regarding her morally questionable festivities. I wish we all were because, yes, there are people dying in the world. I have to agree with him, though, that I am one of those people that falls into the pop trap. Guilty. I hate to follow it, but love to hate it, too. I could care less about topics like this, yet I can't wait to see the fall of Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Tom and Katie and all of Scientology for that matter. We as a society I think NEED to see people like this fall. We need to see it because unfortunately they are idols in the eyes of our young and for that reason they need to be seen for who they truly are as people good or bad. These celebrities aren't important themselves, but society is therefor their effect on it is what's relevant. The valley-girl mentality I've thought dangerous since I was in grade school. Trying to date in Los Angeles several years ago, I recall saying to a friend, "I bet I'll end up with a foreign woman. Wait and see." And I did just that. Everytime I see Paris Hilton now I think of South Park's brilliant parody of her fictional-entrepreneurship to sell her "Spoiled Whore Playset" to the young girls of the town. If I'm fortunate enough to have a daughter of my own I hope she feels the same way about this woman.
