glad I wasn't invited.
by richard

"The moment averts its eyes to this impoliteness."

"It waits for its guest
to return to her bathrobe and slippers,
her cup of good coffee, her manners."

Mixed mangled metaphor. See below.

There’s no such city as Philadephia. Doesn’t anyone proofread?

A published poem should always watch its speling. It should wear spektakles if necesssary.

Very confused and unfocused. I hope to see a better poem next week. But according

to this poem, hope is fatal.

Hirshfield has written more gooder verse and few as worse.

Richard,

Without disputing your objections concerning mixed metaphor and lack of focus, I do wish to plead for tolerance of typos. They slip by all of us once in a while.

My favorite older colleague at Northwestern was the late Harrison Hayford, editor of the complete works of Herman Melville. His work was exemplary--no textual inconsistency or oddity escaped his attention.

He saved Moby-Dick for last, as the crown of a lifetime's work. The press had completed an entire run of dustjackets when Harry finally noticed, to his horror, that the author's name appeared as "Herman Meville."

I like confetti with cards.

Escort the card out!

And, I like the description of deer feet though my thoughts would run to horny feet, but it behooves me to stifle that notion. It is impolite, to say the least. I remember the smell of my daily newspaper before they changed to eco-friendly ink.

It's not the poet I'm faulting for the typo, I make them all the time along with misspelling words.

It's the Slate editor who let it pass.Afterall this is a hoity toity mag!

After all, this is a hoity toity mag!

News to me.

I once wrote an entire paper in college on Samuel Colridge [sic]. and when I was a teacher, I wrote on the board thetitle of the short novel we were going to read -- "The Lonliness [sic] of the Long-Distance Runner."
