Question on Digital
by MaryAnne

This was discussed on anther board yesterday.

Is anyone else having trouble with the sound on the new digital stations? We get so many stations it is impossible to check them all,but the first thing I noticed is the sound quality.

We all know that commercial sounds have been louder for years, but now the sound varies from station to station. PBS is the worst, but now all of them are so low you keep switching.

With a new TV and the switch I really thought it would be great.Comcast was mentioned,I have Time Warner.

I've got Comcast MA. Digital channels have required at least a 15% to 20% increase in volume level to hear them clearly. Once they all go digital (if they do) it may just become an accepted standard instead of being seen as an annoying difference like it is now.

Thanks Watcher. So many thought it was just them having the problems. At least I know it is not just me.

We just got so many stations it is hard to find them all.200,400,1000.I have to check my guide each time. The one good thing is that many stations are bundled together, News,Weather.Entertainment,etc. But many are just the same stations with higher numbers. I also can watch free on demand.

On mine the sound does have to be turned up a bit on some but the quality is great. A couple of months ago I treated myself to a new tv and chose a fairly expensive model to go along with my switch to digital. My daughter has commented over and over again about how great the sound quality is now, but that may have more to do with the tv itself than with Cox Cable.

One of the things I did though was to sign up for the DVR. Now THAT was a terrific present to myself. It is just wonderful to be able to record a show that might be on at the same time as another, or one that I won't be home to see at that time. It also cuts down on how many infomercials I wind up watching if I wake up in the middle of the night. I can just watch one of the recorded shows and don't accumulate a bunch of DVDs.

I have ATT, and a real problem with the audio on my 50" plasma and 40" LCD. The sound is so low on some channels that I have to crank the volume, but on others, at the same setting it blows me out of the room. I also cancelled my HD because the picture and sound were no better than the standard broadcast, and some shows were in letterbox which I detest.

Look in your "settings" on the menu, and see if you have "favorites". If so, just enter the channels you watch in the favorites and go there instead of the main directory. It makes it easier to find the ones you want.
