IT shorthand for hindrance to progress
by roger3815

I sympathize with the writer on this one. The last company I worked for drove me insane with net-blocks. I was hired for my skills in building queries and database. It took nearly 2 months just to get the access to run a select query and that took a direct order from the company president. It took another week to get administrative rights to the computer I was using! I can honestly say that most of the IT I've dealt with over the years are more of a hindrance than help to productivity and most of them are basically useless.

Good luck get any IT person or corporate hack to give up their net-nazi ways. It's no wonder that America is getting stomped in the global market place. They have entire departments dedicated to retarding innovation and most are in IT.

He's right! Let's get the same net policies as say, China. That would be much better!

Badbone,

I don't think you know what you're talking about, and it kind of shows.

Well whatever you do, don't give examples of how I'm wrong. Just claim I am and hit submit.

System Admin/ IT net-nazi here (25+ years):

Couldn't care less if you use Firefox or Chrome or IE. Pay your bills, check your webmail, book your vacation. Good for you. There is one thing that needs a note from GOD, never mind a memo from the president of the company: Admin Access to ANYTHING.

This is evil amonst evil because of the effect that they have on everyone and the company.

You screw up your own little PC, I wag my finger at you and tell you that you have been a bad little PC user and I rebuild the computer.

You screw up using Admin rights to a database / server and you have just toasted the company as a whole, but good. I get paid to make sure that doesn't happen. It ALWAYS comes back to me of why you had admin access, even with the memo from the president.

Do you really think a person who is requesting admin access is such an idiot that they will crash a database? Reallly? You are the worse type of IT person. All such people like you at my company have been let go at one point or another. You give good IT personnel like myself a bad name.

I had a user give herself admin access because she worked at the helpdesk and moved to a different department. She installed limewire and infected her system. If I give you admin access I will get blamed (and possibly fired) when/if you fuck up. REGARDLESS of who demanded it.
