hate it - completely fails as a Today's Papers replacement

Today's Papers was a screenful or two of amiable prose that I could read over a cup of coffee and a bagle or something. That Slatest thing consists of 12 sentences separated by a lot of eye-crap. It's flashy, impersonal, and takes no more than 1 sip of coffee to consume completely. What an awful way to start the day!

Exactly -- a good indication of Middle Management thinking. "We have something unique, something other people don't have, so let's get rid of it, as everyone else is doing it differently, so they must be right. So let's be just like them."

Brilliant.

I could not agree more. TP was a gem in a time of information overload--I nicely crafted set of paragraphs that summarized and contextualized a mass of information well enough that I rarely felt the need to visit the original articles. There was voice, editorial insight, and consistency that I don't believe can be translated to the new format. Very disappointed.

Agreed. It doesn't replace what I used TP for.

I'm fighting my temptation to unsubscribe from the email, in hopes that it will eventually revert back to TP format. Until that ever happens, it will just be deleted unread from my inbox like so much spam, with perhaps monthly checks to see if Slate's head gets screwed back on right.
