Big Insurance wants to keep their monopoly.
by DoctorTom
+1/-1 Reply

They don't want any sort of health care reform if it means any reduction in the outrageous profits they reap from their monopoly.

That's why they're paying hundreds of liars, cheats and thugs who are lobbying, disrupting town hall meetings, and generally trying to scare the shit out of the public.

These big insurance companies continually gambled on bad investments over the past thirty years, and they've lost billions because of it.

They began raising their rates, and cancelling policy-holders who actually tried to use their coverage, just so they could offset the huge losses the companies were experiencing that were due to their own bad real estate and investment decisions.

Republican members of congress are among the liars cheats and thugs on the payrolls of the big insurance companies, so what would you expect from them other than obstructionism?

All of the folks who have insurance coverage through their employers and oppose health care reform should ask themselves what they would do if they lost their jobs, injured themselves seriously off the job, or decided to retire early.

Those folks should ask themselves whether they would they be able to afford $600 to $1,000 per month just for a bare-bones policy with a huge deductible?

That's the reality of the staus quo. You may not like it, you may not agree with it, and you may not think it's fair, butif you do a little checking you'll find that it surely is the reality of today's health care system.

kinda hard to be a monopoly when there are at least

26 major health insurance companies (many more if you count medicare insurance, supplimental care insurance, long term care insurance, and the smaller companies.

4 years of very expensive schooling that puts you hundreds of thousands of dollars into debt, then several years of subsistance living, working 12 days, only to go into practice, still working 10 to 12 hours a day listening to people whine about their petty problems, and worrying that some a-hole will come along and sue you for some slight.

Sure Kal, illegal acts never happen - right?

Is ignorance bliss, Kal? You certainly would know.

Canadians do not want a free-market health system and mostly like the single-payer system they have. The CMA Report Card on Health Care released today said the following:

"The Report Card's overall grade for the health care system is virtually unchanged from last year, with 67% of respondents giving the system either an A or B grade, compared with 66% last year."

<link>

The Canadian Health Care system costs half (per capita) of what the American system costs, and it covers everyone from brith to death. Why would Canadians ever trade that in for something that doesn't work?

How is it a monopoly? There are dozens of insurance companies each offering numerous health plans. So which company has the monopoly and when do the rest go out of business?

Only Government collusion, preferences and discrimination can create monopolies. “But, in fact, no coercive monopoly has ever been or ever can be established by means of free trade on a free market. Every coercive monopoly was created by government intervention into the economy: by special privileges, such as franchises or subsidies, which closed the entry of competitors into a given field, by legislative action. (For a full demonstration of this fact, I refer you to the works of the best economists.)” ARI. “Antitrust,” Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal,

Greenspan explains how corrupt monopolies cannot exist--without the help of government. (<link>)

A “coercive monopoly” is a business concern that can set its prices and production policies independent of the market, with immunity from competition, from the law of supply and demand. An economy dominated by such monopolies would be rigid and stagnant.

The necessary precondition of a coercive monopoly is closed entry—the barring of all competing producers from a given field. This can be accomplished only by an act of government intervention, in the form of special regulations, subsidies, or franchises. Without government assistance, it is impossible for a would-be monopolist to set and maintain his prices and production policies independent of the rest of the economy. For if he attempted to set his prices and production at a level that would yield profits to new entrants significantly above those available in other fields, competitors would be sure to invade his industry.

My company offers two plans...CIGNA and BCBS. Blue Cross costs the employer $60 less a month than CIGNA. No monopoly there....hehehe

The good doctor ignorantly hates capitalism, business, and corporations, so he presumes people will join his ignorance in railing against competition and the profit motive.

Big Business is the Marxists/fascist enemy. Demonizing the wealthy is the same leftwing class warfare tactic that Obama use today. Just like Obama demonizes the “greedy CEO,” liberals are demonizing greedy bourgeoisie, greedy businessmen, greedy Mensheviks, greedy Anglos and greedy Jews still today. For example, wen Government tells businessmen to commit suicide then Government has become too oppressive. The problem is that Government has directed the proletariats’ “Righteous Anger” towards businessmen, and deflected the fact that Government itself has caused these problems. Governments have a history of fanning hatred towards the bourgeois, instead of acknowledging its own failings.

Just like the Obamaist Government today is currently demonizing the greedy Anglo and Jewish businessmen, the National Socialist Party of Germany and the Stalinist Government demonized the greedy Jewish businessmen. Just like the Obamaist Government today, all oppressive/fascist Governments demonize the bourgeoisies. The Government Bolsheviks demonize the Bourgeoisie Mensheviks in order to increase Government size and power, under the guise of an equitable redistribution and promised social justice, while the ignorant, lead by their noses, proletariats scream, “Off with their heads!”

Wow! You wear a bed-sheet over your head and burn crosses too?

Here's a news flash for you, retard...

The government is the people, and seventy percent of the people have said they want health care reform.

Now, all of you ignorant right-wing retards can piss and moan all you want about what the "government" is trying to do, but We The People would appreciate your shutting your pie-holes and getting the fuck out of the way so we can get on with it.
