I thought there would be a serious examination of this disgusting stereotype, but aside from a passing reference to its origins with MALE comedians, the book seems to blow it off (as does the video clip, where the daughter hardly gets to put in a word, thanks to the way the interviewer slanted her questions).

Though I am an American Jewish mother (!) I used to live in Italy, where the exact, same stereotype exists of the Italian mother, and no doubt in other cultures as well. So, yes, I DO blame the Jewish comedians for creating and perpetuating the stereotype. Since comedians in general come from a sad, angry place inside of them, which they turn outward as "comedy", it's easy to see how these Jewish comedians could have created their monster.

Our Hadassah group is working hard to dispell both the Jewish Mother Stereotype and The Haddassah Stereotypes of JAP etc. Most of our group within our chapter are Professional and well educated women. Next on the list should be materialism surrounding the Bar/Bat Mitzvot.
