Glenn Beck is a two bit Joe McCarthy ..
by FormerlyKnownAsIRP
+1 Reply

Fortunately, he is not a member of Congress like Chuck Grassley.

I used to respect Grassley. But when he cowardly caves in to manufactured fears of death panels, it makes me wonder about his backbone. This is in contrast to John McCain in the 2008 campaign who - to his credit - told the truth about the President to audiences at campaign stops.

McCain Counters Obama "Arab" Question

I have no problem with Grassley opposing some of the bills currently floating around Congress. But I would like him to clarify whether he supports the goals for health care reform laid out by the President in February. (My understanding is that he does.) The President has never endorsed a specific plan. He set out broad goals and Congressional representatives and committees (with some input from Republicans) have come up with several different drafts/proposals, To see all the proposals (some from committees and some from groups of representatives or former representatives), you can go to this link:

Side by side comparison of health care proposals

I challenge Grassley to find anything in those proposals that could POSSIBLY be interpreted to allow for "death panels." Caving in on this point simply demonstrates that he is either willing to pander to folks like Beck and Palin or that he thinks that his constituents are too "stupid" to listen to the truth. Grassley needs a lesson in backbone from McCain and should quit kowtowing to Joe McCarthy style demagogues like Glenn Beck.

So, you're saying that if an 80 year old smoker with a heart condition needs a transplant, the government will gladly invest taxpayer money to give that to him.
Why did you change the subject?

Before I answer the question, why don't you answer your own question?

What do you think should be done?

Here are two more questions:

Do you think that this question has any bearing on what I wrote about Grassley's comments? Grassley said that they were going to remove all provisions from bills pertaining to Medicare paying for consultation on topics like living wills. This has nothing to do with the sort of "end-of-life" issue that you are concerned about.

While we are on this topic, do you think Sarah Palin would want to "pull the plug" on someone's grandma who was an 80 year old smoker who needed a heart transplant?

yet it's Democrats reporting their neighbors to the government, for the "crime" of opposing Administration policy.

The answer, as we both know, is no, the government will not commit taxpayer resources to grant an 80 year old smoker a heart transplant.

You know it, and I know it.

The body that will make that determination is your death panel.

No healthcare system can survive without one.

Did you report your liberal neighbors to Cheney?
by FormerlyKnownAsIRP

You didn't have to because Cheney was already wiretapping his enemies. (-:

My bank asks me to report suspicious e-mails to them if I think that a spammer is on a fishing expedition. As we both know, there is a hell of a lot of misinformation being spread through spam. The people who spread misinformation have a perfect right to do that provided their is no fraud involved. The people about whom the information is spread have a perfect right to correct that misinformation and the people who report suspected misinformation are not snitches (despite your implication).

IMHO, you should have been much more scared of Darth Cheney and company.

If no healthcare system can survive without a death panel ..
by FormerlyKnownAsIRP

... why is Sarah Palin talking about death panels?

Could it be that she was trying to rile people up? That sounds like a demagogue to me.

no, and nobody else did either.

The Bush administration, unlike the Obama administration, did not see the American people as the enemy.

You are living in a fantasy land ...
by FormerlyKnownAsIRP

Ever hear of Scooter Libby and Valerie Plame?

Do Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, and Rush Limbaugh consider the millions of Americans (and dare I say Democrats) who are "liberals" are traitors and evil. The talk show that Dick Cheney appeared on most often was Rush Limbaugh. That is very telling.

Don't project your own paranoia on the President.

Re: If no healthcare system can survive without a death panel ..

Yes, just like Obama, she is trying to get people energized.

The big difference, of course, is that Obama is trying to tell us that there are no death panels and that there will be no rationing.

No intelligent person can believe those lies, and yet the left just dutifully attacks anyone who is trying to tell people these truths.

Re: You are living in a fantasy land ...

And you really don't see a difference between Limbaugh calling someone a traitor and Obama calling someone a traitor?

Are you really that indoctrinated?

So it is OK for Sarah Palin to be a demagogue ...
by FormerlyKnownAsIRP

.... because you think that Obama is a demagogue?

BTW, do you believe anything that Obama says or do you believe that he is a consummate liar and that you would never trust him? (My guess is that you think that he was born in Kenya.)

When did Obama call anyone a traitor?
by FormerlyKnownAsIRP

Never.

He has said that some folks are spreading deliberate misinformation.

(I will admit that Nancy Pelosi and Stenny Hoyer in an editorial did use the term "unAmerican" in describing the behavior of some of the folks at the town halls. I think that Pelosi and Hoyer mischaracterized folks and would have better left things at encouraging a more civil dialogue, less hysteria, and less deliberate misinformation. BTW, the term "traitor" is much more charged emotionally than "unAmerican" is. You can be jailed for being a traitor. You can't be jailed for being unAmerican. BTW, there were Republican Congressional representatives - like Tom Delay and Bill Frist - who called opponents of Bush Administration policies unAmerican.)

Fortunately, neither GWB nor Barack Obama have called people who opposed their policies traitors. It would be nice to see you give Obama as much credit as I am giving to GWB.

I am simply saying that your bringing up Limbaugh and Hannity everytime you attempt to defend democrats attacking individual citizens is ridiculous.
Sarah Palin is a demagogue ...
by Terrortoon

Obama is a liar, there is a difference.

Calling panels that determine the viability of a person's request for healthcare is demagoguery, saying that there is going to be no rationing when every intelligent person knows you can't run any system without rationing is lying.

There is a difference
