There's a type of parental culture in this country built around the idea that, "I'm such a busy, involved mom/dad to my young child that I can't even take a shower." It seems to be a boast rather than a complaint. I've always wondered why these folks can't buy a playpen.

The Brits have a term for this set, "Martyr Moms."

All it leads to is strained relationships later in life (with the inevitable guilt trips - I GAVE MY ENTIRE LIFE FOR YOU AND YOUR SISTERS!!!)
