Seriously?
by rcmcf
I haven't had DD coffee, so I can't comment on that (although I have heard many times that they have good coffee), and I agree that Starbucks is over-hyped and over-priced, but given the choice between Starbucks and a McCafé, I'd choose Starbucks every time. Just yesterday I tried one of their free Iced Mochas, and I couldn't finish it. It was way overbrewed, and the chocolate syrup was floating around in clumps. It was awful. When I described it later to my mom, she said the one she had was like that, too. I can't imagine their cappuccino would be any better. But if we want decent coffee, what we need is more hole-in-the-wall cafés that actually know how to make a good cup of coffee (like in Europe) and less fast food lattes.

well yeah, you need to stay away from mcmocha. it's not aimed at grownup coffee drinkers, as their advertising proves. but i've found their latte and cappucino to be quite good. I credit the machine as being foolproof, as most of the folks running them seem to be fools.

i disagree with the article though, regarding mcdonalds coffee. unless they've changed it with the advent of the mccafe, i haven't tried their plain brew lately. but prior to that, it was green mountain brand coffee (i think; or was it paul newmans?), and pretty good. whereas burger king coffee was really really bad.

DD is only OK because everyone in New England drinks coffee like it's a dessert - it's hard to get a cup without sugar. I agree with gzuckier...though I wouldn't drink a fancy coffee from McD's (maybe not even a cappuccino), their regular brew is totally acceptable - it's Green Mountain, I think - and consistently good when traveling. And cheap vs. Starbucks.

In Seattle, I most prefer Tully's though.
