Wonderful Insight
by BenK

While the liberals and libertarians are running around shouting 'government regulation' and 'market forces' (really both saying, all the time, 'money'), finally someone is saying 'community norms' and 'morals.' This is inspired; it reminds us that community and family are the other legs of the stool that is society, and points to the a problem that is unsolvable despite a willingness to turn over vast amounts of money to the charlatans claiming to solve it.

This insight can, by the way, be applied to many many other areas of life. Call people out to do hard things because it is noble and hard things get done. Force them via the state, or bribe them via the market, and your results... well, you can see what you get.

Unfortunately, monetization of social services is irreversible in the short to medium term. That's the part of the research results that the article doesn't mention. Bringing back social norms is extremely hard.

I certainly agree with the last part. 100% What is lost is hard to restore.
