People fear and they see, a fast shuffle

You would be hard pressed to find someone who feels that health does not need serious reform. At the same time they are not generally stupid either. While they may or may not understand what the proposals are about they all do understand that they are NOT getting CLEAR answers and they are getting pressed for immediate action.

Support this now or you will suffer. No we won't tell you how it will work but we PROMISE it will work. We won't tell you how it will be paid for. But we PROMISE it won't hurt the middle class or add to the national deficit.

People of all socioeconomic levels recognize a fast shuffle. The fear mongering talk, the lack of any information and promises, promises...... but we got it have now, immediately. Obama could just as easily be a huckster running a street scam trolling for gullible people with more money than brains.

WOW! A SOLID gold Rolex for only $300, if you buy it in the next 32 seconds. C'mon, hurry up, show me the money. Yeah it's real. I paid $10,000 for it myself. I just need the money. My pain is YOUR gain. Feel how heavy it is. Yeah it needs a new battery, that's why the hands aren't moving.

Stop rushing what is the most important piece of legislation in the countries history. Give us a clear plan, with clear explanations that can be verified and not disputed.

when the bill is done it will be posted on the government's web site you can read it then. in the meantime have you contacted your representative and senators about your preferences and what they are doing? a little of off your ass participation in praticipatory democracy is good for the soul.
It is not the fast shuffle you should be afraid of

It is the fact that the people currently rewriting the health care plan are the insurance companies and the pharmacuetical companies. These people see a big chunk of the taxpayer's money about to be spent, and they are eager to get as much of that money as possible.

Here's what to look for. Will the legislation be rewritten so that instead of the Federal Government providing a health care insurance alternative, instead, the Federal Government will subsidize for profit insurance policies for uninsured citizens? Will those policies be expensive but not provide adequete insurance for those covered? If the insurace companies have their way with the legislation, you can bet that it will be mandatory that you have private health insurance and if you can't pay for it, the government will pay the private health care firms for you. You will get a stripped down policy, but it will cost the government a fortune.

As far as the drug companies go, well, they just won't be part of the legislation. They will continue to run monopolies and there will be no option to buy your drugs from a competitive market and there will be no mandate for the government to make demands for competitive pricing on drugs.

This is why America is not yet a Democracy. When this legislation was first proposed, it was intended that the Federal Government would provide a competitive not for profit insurance policy for uninsured or under insured citizens that would compete very effectively against private policies and if successful would eventually replace all private insurance policies through market competition.

After hundreds of millions of dollars in lobbying efforts, this has become an opportunity for private insurance companies and drug companies to dip into the taxpayers monies for their own profit.

We will never have a democracy/representative republic until our government can keep its hands and our tax dollars out of business. We don't need governement provided healthcare and the left knows it.
I'm not a leftist, just a plain old capitalist
by Trebuchet

I say bring it on! If the government really thinks they can compete with for profit private health insurance companies, then let them compete in the open market.

There was a time when fire departments in American cities were all privately owned and if you didn't buy a private fire insurance policy, the fire department wouldn't put out your fire. After awhile, it dawned on home owners that a) it wasn't a good idea to have uninsured homeowners since if their house fire isn't put out, it could affect your house and b) it would be stupid to shell out tax money to pay private fire houses to do a public service.

Eventually we will figure out the same thing about Health. Eventually.

Trebuchet... The gov't does not intend to compete with insurance companies. One pathway they seem to have defined to fund this pig is to eliminate private insurers and require that everyone participate in their single payor plan. They do that by defining under what circumstances people will lose and cannot renew or even use private insurance. If you change your job and that ends your participation in one insurer then you will be required to use the gov't plan at your new job. Yes, you can also pay for private insurance but at an additional expense. You will still have to buy the gov't option.
And the government plan will be a private insurer
by Trebuchet

That was my point. The private insurers have poured a tremendous amount of money into the coffers of the congressmen to insure that whatever the government does with the taxpayers money, it will eventually find it's way into the pockets of the private insurers without any real competition from anyone. We all know how that works.

They did this with Pharmacueticals when they expanded Medicare drug coverage a few years back. The only people it benefitted were the Drug companies. They made sure that the legislation made it illegal to compete for fair pricing.

TexasPete says: "We don't need governement provided healthcare and the left knows it."

If that's true Pete, please explain why there are approximately 47,000,000 americans without any kind of health insurance at all - and that number appears to be increasing at a rate of about 14,000 per day (or roughly half a million people per year).

You could become one of tomorrow's 14,000, Pete. You never know.......

We know Texas Pete is not a Health Insurance CEO
by Trebuchet

Because the Health Insurance CEOs know a secret - they need government provided health care.

See, where the rubber meets the road in the health insurance industry is right about where people go from being young healthy relatively cheap customers of private health insurance companies that charge enormous premiums to their companies who then pass those costs on to the employee in the form of reduced salaries to retired senior citizens who actually need health insurance coverage to handle their medical bills.

That is where private insurers bail on the individual and lets the government step in and start paying the bills with tax payers money.

It is one of those classical have your cake and eat it too scenarios. But if you are thinking about trying this kind of scam on the taxpayer yourself, be forewarned - health insurance companies pay tremendous amounts of money to congressmen to ensure that each and every year there will be only legislation that benefits their profit line and nothing that protects the consumer.

Quite honestly, you don't have the kind of money you need to play this scam.

If you actually read the census data rather than beleive at face value what your party leadership places in front of you to digest you would realize that the 47,000,000 is a bogus number 10,000,000 are illegal aliens, 17,000,000 were offered healthcare plans and opted out in spite of the fact they could afford them and the other 20,000,000 are the people who prefer to live on the fringes of society like street thugs, criminals evading arrest and/or detention, drug users, bums, tramps & hobo's. These people won't abide by the provisins in this bill to get their own healthcare even after the passage of the bill.
