Outlaw teachers unions

Public employee unions should be illegal. What other group of white collar workers besides teachers is universally unionized?

How about every Federal employee in Washington?

Many state employees....

Why the hate for teachers' unions? Does anyone who hates them even have any idea what they are talking about? Or do they just listen to the radio a great deal? This radio listening-I'm sure it gives you a true understanding of my teaching job and the salary and benefits my union is fighting for......

Not all federal employees belong to a union.

I am ideologically opposed to unions. I believe in the private sector that the owners of a company should decide whether they deal with unions or not. If they choose not to, then they should have the right to immediately fire any employee whom they even suspect of wanting to organize a union.

I think in the public sector that unions should be illegal. This would save the tax payers money. People don't need to be in a union to get a decent salary and benefits. I'm not in a union and I make more $ than most teachers and I have a decent health insurance plan. I won't get a pension, but I get a decent 401K match (at least for now).

Employers should have the right to treat individual employees as individuals. Individual employees who are unhappy with management's decisions have the right to quit. This seems like the only fair way to go.

You are evidence of everything that the Republican party wants and has been trying to do in the United States.

The rest of us should take note.

I don't always agree with the GOP. I voted libertarian in 2004 because I found Bush to be far too liberal, especially on spending. His support for Medicare Part D was the final straw for me.

I also oppose zoning laws, which most Republicans seem perfectly happy to leave in place. Some libertarians disagree with them, but they don't say much about it.

I support illegal immigration, just like Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush and John McCain, however the base is opposed to illegal immigration.

I find myself more than a little shocked that you voted Libertarian in 2004. Libertarians, while claiming independence from the Republican Party, almost universally vote Republican when it comes time to cast their vote. Of course Republicans can count on the fact that a Libertarian would rather poke needles in their eyes than ever vote for a Democratic candidate, so Republicans can count on Libertarians never voting for anyone other than a Republican who can actually get elected (99.99% of the time)

That makes Libertarians virtually the equivalent, as far as the GOP is concerned, to the Religious Right. Except that the Religious Right is even more in the pocket of the Republican National Committee than Libertarians because the minute a Republican suspects that a member of the Religious Right might “stay home” or “vote third party”, he/she just yells “abortion!” and 100% of the Religious Right folds back into loyal Republicans.

So you are slightly ahead of the RR.

I would describe myself as socially reactionary and fiscally libertarian with a little bit of an anarchist streak.

The only thing that Bush did that Libertarians should definitely agree with is lower the top marginal tax rates. Some libertarians might like his judicial picks as well.

On spending Bush was worse than anyone since LBJ. Certainly not a libertarian stand.

Bush created a new entitlement program expanding the federal government's reach into healthcare. Certainly not a libertarian stand.

Bush expanded the federal government's role in public education. Certainly not a libertarian stand.

On gun control he urged the SCOTUS to NOT strike down the DC Handgun ban. Certainly not a libertariance stand. Fortunately they didn't listen to him. Cheney publicly disagreed with him on that one.

Although not all libertarians are comfortable with the idea of same-sex marriage (or really government-sanctioned marriage), they generally wouldn't like a federal constitutional amendment intruding into an area traditionally reserved for State government.

Its rare to find a libertarian who would support pre-emptive war.

On the surface most libertarians should oppose the Patriot Act (although digging deeper it should be ok, as it doesn't actually take away anybody's civil liberties).

Bush increased financial regulations (Sarbanes Oxley). Certainly not a libertarian stand.

Bush bailed out the financial and auto industries. Certainly not a libertarian stand (or conservative or liberal while we're at it).
