I don't watch baseball on TV, but I don't see a reason the screen couldn't be split as in the examples used the article. Wide-screen televisions are becoming the norm, so there is no reason to not take advantage of that extra space and offer two views. It would cost more in terms of an extra camera crew, but it would still be fewer cameras than is used in football.
