Health Savings Accounts
by beachlady

Just wanted to point out that if Tony Snow had a health savings account (as defined by the IRS), he must also have a "high-deductible" health insurance policy. The high deductible is currently $5200 for a family (last time I filed my taxes). Of course, that still leaves the details of who pays what after the deductible is met, but he certainly wouldn't be left out in the cold.

Whether health savings accounts, which allow one to use pre-tax dollars to pay for health-related expenses, are the solution to our health care woes is another matter.

Why is it that politicians constantly point out that 47 million americans are without health insurance without adding that it does not mean that 47 million americans are without healthcare. Go to any local hospital and ask how much of their service is "free care". Millions of americans, and even more illegal aliens, receive free healthcare every day. Part of this care may be reimbursed to hospitals from a free care pool established by private insurance companies. This free care pool is obviously supported from exaggerated premiums to those who pay for health insurance.

If politicians were honest, ( of course that is like saying "if pigs could fly"), they would point this out. But most of them, especially the Democrats, are so focused on the government solving all of our personal problems that they only want to focus on the dramatic rather than the real situation.

just a guess here, but i betcha tony snow's family spends more then $5,000 a month on luxuries such as dining out, vacations, tickets to NFL and MLB games . . . no wait, he get's comped on those i bet.

forgive me if i don't shed a tear for snow's financial circumstances.

I came here to say what beachlady said. If Snow were on continuing treatement, he would have to pay the high deductable every year, but insurance would cover the rest.
