$1.50 an hour?
by spatton54

Chinese factory workers in Guangdong province get maybe $0.50 per hour (if that).

At $1.50 per hour in Palau, the Uighurs will make three times a typical Chinese factory wage.

No doubt they like 5 billion other humans would rather reside in America where they can make 20-30 times as much as they could in China, and where they can get more in welfare in just a couple years than they could earn in several lifetimes back home.

Regrettably for them, that just isn't going to happen. I am sure a three-times pay increase will do just fine, however.

the point of that statement was that they'll make less money than their palaun (note- no idea if this the correct term) peers. Comparing wages across countries can be pretty meaningless depending on the cost of living in respective countries. so maybe they make 3 times as much as compared to a chinese worker, but that means nothing if cost of food/clothing/housing is 3x's more expensive (or more). more importantly, that was not the point of the author at all...the point was that within the society of that island, they'll make less than the vast majority of the population.
