Amazing. How about the question, "What does Primary Colors tell us about Joe Klein?" - and by extension the national news media? Is there any connection between Klein (a) writing a novel about a subject he was covering at the time that was based on inside dirt he had picked up during his assignment (b) publishing it anonymously (c) lying about it (d) going nuclear on anyone who hinted he might be lying (e) once found out, pretending it was of no consequence (f) /continuing/ to cover the same people and topic right through to the current day?

Does that tell us anything about the traditional media - including quite a bit about how they plan to control, I mean cover the 2008 election? I would say it does.

I had forgotten all the stuff about Joe Klein writing the book, Primary Colors, anonymously. And then his subsequent lying about not being the author. Perhaps it could be a reflection of the Clinton supporters of the time. It seemed to me to be an extreme version of the ends justify the means. Anyone who had the audacity to criticize the Clintons was completely villified and ripped apart. I did read the book, but never saw the movie.

I don't see why we should care about Joe Klein or decide to use him to represent the media, at large.

Because Klein is the national politics editor of Time Magazine, one of the largest traditional media outlets in the world, and will be directing Time's coverage of Senator Clinton's campaign?
