Will the Republican Party split in two?
by FormerlyKnownAsIRP

I predict that the Republican Party will split in two within the next four to eight years. There will be a pure conservative party that will continue to elect people from parts of the South and parts of the Mountain West. And there will be "moderates/independents" who may win continue to win a few Senate and House seats in places like the Northeast and possibly the West Coast. The moderates/independents will tend to caucus with the party in power.

Based on current trends, I just can't see the old Reagan coalition surviving.

If the republicans are going to survive, they need to move back to right of center.

The liberal big govt republicans led by Bush were a total disaster and betrayed almost every conservative principle.

They will not survive trying to be socialist light.
