Since when...
by ueberbill

Is Maryland in the South?  The only people who think that's true are people who've never actually been to the South.   What kind of tea do they serve when you order Iced Tea?  If the answer is unsweetened and you're not in New Orleans, then you're not in the south.

Incidentally, I agree with both the incredible unfairness of current national marriage policy AND the fact that it's going to be a long time before that's fixed.  But fixed it will be- when the current young  generation starts making the rules.

I guess its hard to be a loyal American homosexual when you realize that that all Americans are created equal unless they happen to be homosexual. That is now a legit statement considering that CA was allowed to vote to keep gays from marrying. There is absolutely no language in our laws which makes it OK to deny rights to one group based on their sexual orientation until now.....

Im sure its wonderful to know that the younger generation is a bit more tolerant of diversity in our population, but when we can all agree about equality why should the current generation of homosexuals need to wait? The CA vote was a clear violation of our constitution as are any other laws making gay marriage illegal.

And Im not gay btw, but I am outraged we could pass such laws in this day and age of "enlightened" voters....

"The CA vote was a clear violation of our constitution as are any other laws making gay marriage illegal." Obviously, your interpretation of the Constitution differs from that of professional judges.

That has yet to be seen. The process of getting a court to consider the law will take time. Equality based on sexual orientation will come. In the mean time, don't give. Don't whine.

As someone who spent six years living in Maryland, I have to agree! Even Virginia (at least Northern Virginia) isn't really the South anymore.

It appears the south moved to CA.

I cannot believe any so called progressive populations would vote against the right of others to marry because they are gay. But I suppose people in the south voted pro slavery in their day too....the ignorance of my fellow Americans knows no bounds.

As to the unconstitutionality of it, it clearly illegal to fire someone or to hurt someone because they are gay...we have clear laws against discrimination based on homosexuality and we have clear laws which make it a violation of civil rights too. Yet now its OK to keep gays from marrying?

The SJC should take on this slam dunk case and make it clear that in America we are all created equal in the eyes of the law. To let that vote stand is an abomination to the statement that all of us are created equal and that our rights apply equally to all.
