Consider that, after the lamia begins its terror-visits, the girl suddenly wants to give the gypsy lady an extension on her mortgage, but the gypsy is now dead. Perhaps she used similar methods to get her first two extensions?

speaking of movies where the central thesis requires gross stupidity on the parts of the characters, how about the new star trek movie? but that didn't stop me from enjoying it though.

The all-time Sultan of Stupidity was the original "Night at the Museum." The man has barely escaped with his life from the mummies, lions and tyrannosaurus rex...and the next night he brings his little son there! It kept me from going to see the sequel.

there are so many classic movie stupidities; just watching a bad sf movie on the scifi channel or whatever they're calling themselves now . The invulnerable monster, impervious to bullets, hand grenades, explosions, whatever... which runs away when you shoot at it, despite the bullets bouncing off with no effect.

I dont think we were supposed to empathize with the old gypsy as much. She was intentionally gross beyond belief. She was no little ol' lady, she was a grotesque stereotype of a witch. She was hilarious, in fact.

Actually, Im acutely aware of the foreclosure problem, but think Raimi was merely painting a picture here, not championing the foreclosed.
