Maybe the powerlifters have it right.

Because of the loads of several hundred pounds they have to move, they've developed suits that mechanically stabilizes their joints, which make the weights safer to move.

They also, however, increase the amount that can be lifted.

They have coped with this by simply keeping two sets of records: a set of lift records that allow a reasonable amount of support and assistance gear, and "raw" records, for those who attempt lifts unassisted.

Why not the same for swimmers?
