Some of it is just in good fun...
by Ridry
My friends and I like to joke about 2012 occassionally and will probably have an apocalypse party on the special day. I highly doubt that everyone on the internet thats chattering about this is serious though, perhaps more tongue-in-cheek?

In fact, I almost think it's becoming an internet meme more than anything else. I'm sure some day (long before 2012) we'll all get bored of it, but for now its worth a chuckle. Maybe somebody can combine a 2012 joke with the Russian reversal and Chuck Norris... any takers?

I wonder if the artist formerly known as Prince will come out with a sing "Party like it's 2012?"

This is good stuff--hilarious and extremely entertaining. Rosenbaum, who apparently loves the Masters of Atlantis (one of my own favorite novels, as well), should enjoy such a bizarre and convoluted apocalyptic cult scenario. There's nothing better than an American adoption of an ancient cult. For some reason, it makes me feel patriotic.

It will be a great excuse for a party. I'm thinking costumes.

Naw. Thats ok. Celebrating 2012 just isn't my thing.

Now 2038 on the other hand...

The world will end in 2012 because Chuck Norris will finally get fed up and give it a roundhouse kick.

The Russian reversal is harder... "in Soviet Russia 2012 is scared of you"?

In the combination department, how about,

"In Soviet Russia, 2012 means the end of CHUCK NORRIS!" (All caps to represent the part where you get louder, and point)

(Because, you know, Chuck is un-endable.)

What do you get after drinking too much Russian vodka at a 2012 party? A headache like a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick to the head.

Comedy is hard...

What I find offensive about this author's article is the complete dismissal of New Age spiritual beliefs. Granted, I am an agnostic and don't believe in any religion but this guy seems bitter to an extreme. What makes any of this more unbelievable than an omnipotent God? Abuse by people in positions of authority be they religious, political or your boss is disgusting any way you spread it. The author takes aim at the wrong prey and should not tarnish "New Age" with his bitter tongue. Something smacks of sad cynicism in his voice, perhaps he never got that all important article for the Village Voice and was kept out of the love ins.

If you read western world bibles, the world is supposed to end by some kind of rapture and destruction. Anything that happens during the 365 days of a year, will be a date on the calendar. December 21, 2012 is date on the calendar.

The Chuck Norris jokes should have been the 1970s through the 1980s. When he actually was all that. Today he's just some old guy following wacko politics and selling exercise machines.

Like Jackie Chan. Twenty years after his peak...Hollywood discovers him.

Read the chapter on "New Age" thinking in Carl Sagan's book, "The Demon-Haunted World." New Agers deserve as much scorn and ridicule as any other woo-woo thinker (and yes, that includes people who think religion is a substitute for science).

Just curious. Do you believe that all religious people believe that religion is a substitute for science?

And.....I have to go one step further...do you realize how many "unqualified* authors are on the internet?....this is a classic example, he has not even mentioned the chinese calender in this article or the Niukonska (Osage)...he needs to explain how.....the chinese and the mayans have calenders that have the same end date when 4000 years ago they didn't even know each other existed. Mr. author?...do your homework before you write about things that NO ONE can be sure of if it's real or not...and why haven't you told youir audience about the fact most scientists have said something about in 2012 that the earth will be traveling through a part of space where we will not have the protection from gamma rays as we do now and from what I understand that it has never happened before?

After you have read ALL that there is THEN publish your article....have a nice day
