republicans own the media

Back when republicans ran the government, both the white house and congress, they outnumbered democrats on all the cable and network shows 2 to 1. When asked, they would argue that they are the ones making policy and need to be heard. Both now and when Clinton was president, the same ratio is to be found. When asked, they will argue that we need to hear the voice of the opposition.

For several weeks we have been treated to a Newtfest, a Rush-athon and a Cheney-enema. The same goes for print media. They are given loud megaphones when out of power that the democrats never enjoyed. Does anyone recall people clamoring for democrat views when Bush foolishy lied us into a disastrous war? Of course not. We live in a corporatocracy. After Clinton won in 92, corporations wisely decided to buy up all the media they could. When a democrat is in power, there is no end of bitter reciminations. When a republican, the editors of papers make sure his name (Bush) is mentioned 3 times in a flattering way per page.

The illusion of democracy is just that. If you pay any attention to the media, you are consuming pablum designed to soften the electorate towards corporate-freindly legislation. Corporate media gives you corporate veiwpoints. As anyone knows, republicans serve the corproatocracy to a greater degree than democrats, so they will be showcased. However, one only look at how Obama has give the store to Wall Street and banks to know nothing has changed.

There is only one cable station that gives the republicans a fair and balanced review

All the other stations are the donkey party's propaganda machine

8 years of incessant lies about GWB and you have the audacity to say this

Sandy Berger and Nancy Pelosi have committed treasonous acts and still have not even been charged, where's the press?

Re: republicans own the media

If you rub your 2 brain cells together you would know the worst crime you could charge Pelosi with is hypocrisy. Charging republicans with hypocrisy is like charging water with wetness. I was referencing all the ink given to republican plans to block Obama's supreme court nomination - BEFORE he's announced his pick. Anyone remember ANY press being given to democrats before or after Bush's picks?

Then why haven't the republicans shut down ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, PBS, NPR, and MSNBC?

Cheney-enema

That is the best combined word I have read in ages.I shall remember that one:o) And think of what is spewing from his mouth every time I see him.It will be shortlived,as I cannot stand to watch him.

The sleazy Murdoch seems to own vast parts of the media
by Time4CommonSense

Murdock owns Fox [entertainment] News as well as the WSJ, New York Post, Dow Jones, as well as vast News Service holdings in Australia and Britain.

Murdoch, himself seems to be a very sleazy Corporate citizen, hiding his earnings in offshore tax havens, instead of paying his fair share of income tax.

From Wikipedia: Tax Avoidance
" In 1999, The Economist reported that News Corp Investments had made £1.4 billion ($2.1 billion) in profits over the previous 11 years but had paid no net corporation tax. It also reported that after an examination of the available accounts, News Corp could normally have been expected to pay corporate tax of approximately $350 million. The article explained that in practice the corporation's complex structure, international scope and use of offshore tax havens allowed News Corporation to pay minimal taxes. "

lovethebomb, "the worst crime you could charge Pelosi with is hypocrisy" I think you are missing the point, this is about a major elected rep trying to investigate some people for the "policy" used, while denying her own complicity with the use of the "policy". It is clear that congress new the facts and I guess at the time they had no real problem with it, now they are trying to say some thing different. obama opened up this issue, it was a mistake, what he did not realize was that some would go to far, like the "2 brain cell"pelosi, she is so out of it she does not even see the "Qs" from obama to let it go.

As for the "media" you should know that the "whores go where the customers are".

Repugnants understood long ago that the only way to combat their imagined enemy in the media is to use it to their own advantage.

The Pelosi thing is really stunning. Republicans have actually shifted the entire debate away from the real issue, which is whether the United States should use tortue in interrogations. This entire public trial is a supreme strawman. And every major news network has her front and center. Even Slate made this a headline.

It's disgusting.

Re: republicans own the media

Like I said, she might be guilty of hypocrisy. There is no investigation yet and if there is I hope whatever role she played is fully explored. She couldn't reveal classified info at the time anyway, so what's the big woop. Like a majority of Americans who supported the invasion before it went sour, most media outlets bought and sold the lies about WMD and links between 9-11 and Saddam. They too don't want any light shone on their complicity either. The dingbats who voted Bush back into power in 2004 just want it all to go away too since it reflects rather poorly on them as well.

Sometimes, ya gotta just keep walking . .

Re: republicans own the media

The Republicans are doing everything in their power, which means all of them screaming the same thing at the same time, as loud as they can in a diversionary tactic to take the media eyes off their beloved torturers, the criminal traitors, and attempt to fix blame on congress. Sorry, suckers, it's not going to work. Don't you all get it yet? We know your game. It is those tactics that lost you the race in November and will continue to cascade in on you in 2010, 2012 and hopefully for at least the next 100 years beyond that.
Re: republicans own the media

Liberal Patriot, if there is a "diversion" pelosi is directly responsible, no one else. " fix blame on congress" not true, however congress was complicit. I will be surprised if anyone "swings" for this, but what will not surprise me is that each party will inflict as much political damage as possible to the other. The "media" will love it. Haven't you seen this sort of thing before?
Re: republicans own the media
by Liberal Patriot
It's a useless cat fight and I expect ANY member of congress to be called to the carpet...IF they broke the law. The question is whether those who enabled the use of alleged torture methods are guilty of a crime. I think both parties need to shut their flapping lips and leave it in the hands of the Justice Department.

This is from another post by Arlington the other day that fits it to a T:

"We did nothing wrong and it's your fault because you did nothing to stop us." Pretty much sums it up.

The Repubs remind me of the prisoner sentenced to whippings
by Time4CommonSense

Currently, the Republicans remind me of the prisoner that has been sentenced to receive whippings, four times a day, as punishment.

After the prisoner/repub has received their daily whipping, four times a day for months on end, then one day they only receive two whippings whereas the prisoner loudly proclaims that "things here are really now a lot better for me".

If that is true, you should like the idea of a republican owned media. It is so effective the republicans have an almost 25% approval rating.
