Growing you own

My grandparents used to grow their own - maybe a flock of 60. The difference in taste was beyond description between their eggs and store bought. Sometimes money isn't the whole issue.

Now, I'm not a farmer by any means, but sixty hens doesn't sound like your average backyard chicken project.

That's the size of my flock. Not quite what most people have in mind when using the phrase "backyard chickens." We sell enough eggs to actually make a small profit on the enterprise.

I think the real trend here is that for the last 60 years, people *didn't* have chickens.
