Letdown
by DecaturJeff

Behind the Front was a smart, hip record. They were fantastic when I saw them open for Outkast in '98. Then this Fergie thing happened and the world's most annoying song "My Humps" was created and it turned these guys into a joke.

I've got not problem with any artist becoming popular and getting paid. I'm not the kind of person to call someone a sell out, but the zeal with which these guys crossed over to pop is something I've never seen before. It's not even the same group. Now, they're about as fun and interesting as a boy band.

Dude, you totally called it. I loved BEP back in the day and then that stupid Fergie came on the scene. What drives me crazy is I sometimes think of what a great hip hop band these guys could of been if they had just experimented in a different way, maybe not focus on the dollar bill. Now, they just put out shit that's just beyond wack. I'm talking crap that's thicker than the shit pies put out by some of the young internet, voicebox cats rapping today. I suppose for BEP it's no matter. They got their millions.

Agreed totally. Behind The Front is a great CD and one of my old favorites, but the Black Eyed Peas of 2009 musically bare no resemblance to that of 1998. To go from a group that was making that style of hip hop with a distinct groove, it was sad to see them go 100% pop with vapid singles. Thinking about the old BEP, that was one of the last groups I'd have expected to be making the music they do now. Ah, well.
