brown didn't toe the line but she broke new ground
by djbruce
In a world where most women at any age are denied real self sexual expression, I'm willing to give Brown a pass on her feminist lapses. Obviously she's a transitional figure, caught between role expectiations. I think she did women a service, if sometimes in an eccentric fashion. I think her issues surounding food are not uncommon and are cultural As are many of the traits that she is being castigated for.. Cosmo was talking to women about sex in a manner that hadn't really been done before. That must be viewed in the historical context as well.

Yes, indeed. She made it okay for women to be just as slutty as men, except that she still accepted (accepted?, hell promoted) the sugar daddy/ daddy's girl paradigm for relationships.

Hey, I'm comfortable with women having the right to exercise their sexuality without being castigated more viciously than men are for the same actions, but I think they should pick up the check now and then if they want to be respected on those terms. A Cosmo girl would never pick up the check. Hell, that was the whole point of being sexually available in HGB's world.
