Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009
by spiker

Women get the shit kicked out them everyday by men who hate women, why doesn't this ACT include them?

I bet more women are beaten and killed by misogynist everyday than gays or blacks combined in a year. Why doesn't this Act work to prevent that?

From the text of the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009:

"(1) IN GENERAL- At the request of a State, local, or tribal law enforcement agency, the Attorney General may provide technical, forensic, prosecutorial, or any other form of assistance in the criminal investigation or prosecution of any crime that--
(A) constitutes a crime of violence; CommentsPermalink

(B) constitutes a felony under the State, local, or tribal laws; and

(C) is motivated by prejudice based on the actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, *** GENDER ***, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability of the victim, or is a violation of the State, local, or tribal hate crime laws."

(emphasis added)

So basically you have no idea what you're passing gas about, eh?

Great now we will be able to impute motive behind a crime and punish accordingly. Hmmm... it seem white men really get screwed with this one. Glad I don't have to pass for white.

And I wonder what all the hoopla is about Biden's Violence Against Women Act XX Factor women are blogging about? :0) My point all along. Thanks for playing.

How's those laws against murder doing at stopping murder? How's those laws against robbery doing about reducing robbery?

Seriously, if hate crime laws only really work to discredit the "I had to kill him because I was afraid he'd come on to me" defense, it's a step in the right direction ...

Hate Crime legislation is useful in tracking motives behind crimes and their related statistics. Murder is of course a crime. Determining how many of those murders happened via domestic violence versus robberies, etc is useful knowledge.

You mean it is not a Prevention Act to be funded with Federal dollars?

I wouldn't say that it will be effective as far as preventing hate crimes. But, I do think that over time and through tracking the motives behind these crimes, an opportunity to educate people will arise and that may lead to a reduction in hate crimes.

Personally, I wouldn't vote for this legislation, but I do see the tracking as useful.
