Whatever
by achilleselbow
The only people who feel constricted are the ones who can't imagine shopping anywhere but brand name stores. Were I a boy that age, I'd prefer a girl wearing a Ramones t-shirt or something to either the 'princess' or the 'prude' look.

I think you missed the point. Most eleven-year-old girls don't dress to impress boys, thank goodness, nor do their parents want them to dress to impress boys. The girls want to wear what their friends are wearing. The parents want their daughters to feel comfortable and confident in their clothing without looking like "princesses," "prudes," or "sluts."

Also, I doubt many preteen girls these days spend a lot of time listening to the Ramones.

Well, I agree and disagree with the article. Yes, the logo may not have been suggestive at first site, and the girl probably misinterpreted the logo to mean something sexual, when really it was not so much. But I do agree that the clothing we are giving to our children is very provocative. Even 5 years ago it wasn't this bad. I would have never been allowed to wear a thong when I was 12. Nor would my mother go out and buy me a push-up bra. Yes, puberty is hitting faster, but it doesn't mean that these young girls are developing the requirement for sexualized clothing, manufactured to draw in men, at this still early age. I detest when I go to the mall and I see some girl with her mom trying on clothes that are obviously not meant for her. What ever happened to the fun t-shirts and blue-jeans? Isn't that what most kids would wear in 4th grade? I don't think anyone can honestly say that these clothing choices that most parents are making for their prepubescent children are a bit shocking. I was in the Dallas/Ft. Worth airport and there was this business woman in her mid-40's with a tween (or younger) tagging along with her, wearing highheels, a skimpy skirt and top, and makeup. I know everyone that saw her probably thought, "Will this mother get off of her phone and put clothes on her kid?" No, the clothes didn't push up of not cover enough skin, albeit the skirt was short. But the particular cut of the clothing and the style she was wearing was typical of a 23 year old bar-hopper. Adult fashions always translate into the children's department, but it is always in a younger more modest version. Now, we are seeing this more modest and young look being thrown out the window and our children are looking like lolita prostitues in exchange.

Just check this article out. A young girl in Texas was brutally beaten by the police when she 'resisted arrest' when they tried to pick her up for prostitution. Guess what? She wasn't a prostitute, she just looked like it.
