Remember when Slate/the Fray rolled out Fraywatch?
by BFD
Remember what they said about why they started Fraywatch.? Look at it now. They took Moira's Slate BOTF column and the great BOTF board and turned it into a dead board(Fraywatch) and a mediocre board(BOTF). Nice work. Editorial neglect has turned other really good Fray boards into cesspools. Nice work.

the GWBush of Slate Fray.
Geoff was the George W. Bush of the Fray.

Kevin actually suited up and showed up for work. Geoff was on vacation most of the time.

well, we are the editors, now.... except we have no buttons to push... only words.
We couldn't have done it without you.

So, thanks for that.
There was a happy

middle ground between Kevin Arnovitz's psychotic games play as editor and the determined neglect of a Geoff Anderson. Either the job was too much for you -- and why shouldn't it have been as you were unqualified to become a moderator or administrator of a national e-zine's forums system -- or you simply became bored -- in a childish manner -- and lacked the integrity to leave so that a decent replacement could be found.

Considering what could have happened with a screw up such as you in control, boards such as the BOTF are still flourishing. Benign neglect is the best that any of the Fray boards can hope for at this point in time. Return to your editorial coma state Geoff. Very few people have missed you.

Why can't posters manage their own boards? In BOTF, for example, posters could just ignore inflammatory posts and posters. Instead, they continue to attack them and merely feed the fire.

It's human psychology.

One might as well ask why professional musicians need a conductor in order to perform together in an orchestra. Aren't they all experienced professionals, don't they know how to read music, can't they just do what needs to be done without someone standing before them waving a silly baton?

It's not that the BOTF [for instance] needs an editor to always be on hand but there are times when it IS necessary for someone from on high to enter the scene and kick a little rump. This is why ALL chatrooms across the Internet have at least one moderator in attendance.

On the BOTF board there was one poster spamming the board with inflammatory top posts in a non stop manner and he did not care if anyone replied to him or not. Good posts were being knocked off the page by his rash of non stop garbage posting. An moderator could have fixed the problem in jig time but with Geoff departure in December [he no longer works for Slate -- he returned just to help out temporarily] these Fray boards do not have a moderator and the nut cases are gradually becoming aware of that fact.

So it goes.

You could, and you did.

Good luck in your new job. I guess it's better to continue being a bad writer than becoming another bad lawyer.

Oh dear, oh dear ...

Turning on the charm again, eh? One hazards a guess that it is safe to say, GA won't be missed by most folks here. The new "Moderator" appears to have some ... (gulp) manners! This could bring some of the old posters back, one hopes. As ever, "be well," ton ami. (p.s. remember zeitguy?)
