ProFootballTalk.com

Praise for ProFootballTalk.com is overblown. This is the same web site that reported that Fox Sports personality Terry Bradshaw was dead, and that Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre was going to retire.

People I know who cover pro football for a living, instead of a hobby, say the site is often wrong and consistently reports rumor and gossip that isn't true. If a fan wants to read that, good for them.

But an indispensable web site? Give me a break.

Although not the best predictor and sometimes a completely false one, profootballtalk coagulates a lot of day to day newstories in its one-liners. If you can tell me of a better website that lists and links to the hometown newspapers the injuries I need to/want to know (mostly for fantasy purposes) then I am all ears.

I started reading it for those more than the legal jargon.

i agree - i read profootball talk regularly not so much for their editorial content, which i find extremely juvenile, but for their news updates and rumors.

i would also check out si.com's rumor mill which also has one-liner summaries of football news from around the country and doesn't always have the same stuff as profootballtalk. they also have a rumor mill for other sports.

Check on the juvenile editorial content, Brett. But it is a really good aggregator of news links. Plus, Florio's analysis of various contracts/contract situations around the league is better than you're going to get most anywhere else.

I am surprised, though, that Weintraub didn't mention the somewhat-adolescent tone. I mean, "Turd Watch" is one thing, but the frequent use of the word "poopy" makes one think, "Uh, this guy's a lawyer?"

PFT's website clearly says "rumor mill" not "fact mill."

I visit this site every and thoroughly enjoy it's insight and commentary.

You've cited to instances where they were not correct in their reporting, but what about the all reported "rumors" that were truly factual.

No one is correct 100% of the time.
