And here, in a nutshell, is what Israel is.
by Larry2

It's a movement that steals other peoples' land, makes them refugees, and builds ugly prefab housing on it. All on America's nickel.

Don't let "liberal" Israelis fool you. They serve primarily to put a human sheen on an inhuman, ugly colonialism. Israel is a criminal state, and its American enablers are criminals too for aiding and abetting it.

Don't worry. Hamas has made it clear that they would not talk to Tzipi Livni and her peace party, either. But you must know that already...that's why the Hamas apologists are echoing the Hamas line. And they are spouting phrases like "inhuman, ugly colonialism" that go all the way back to the Old Left, who always pretended not to notice that the Soviet Union had one of the biggest colonial empires in history.

However, when it comes to stealing land...I must say again that Zionists BOUGHT land in Palestine going back to the 19th Century. You can read all about it in James Joyce's Ulysses. If you are interested in reading anything but the latest Hamas manifesto.

I suppose you'll be giving your house to an apache next week, right?

James Joyce's Ulysses is hardly the last word in historical fact. Are you claiming that all land with settlements on has is legitimately owned by these settlers and that all buildings are legal? It would be pretty bold to do so.

The Israeli soldiers have been dragging the illegal settlers away. Elianna even said that she was concerned about having to harm an Israeli soldier. There is there no question that illegal settlements exist and the army is trying to disband them.

As for James Joyce, he was well known for his realistic depiction of turn-of-the-century Dublin life, including the life of Leopold Bloom, who was buying land in Palestine. I cannot imagine Joyce deciding in 1914 that he would make up a bunch of Irish Zionists buying Palestinian land.

"When I think about being uprooted, I have real physical pain," she said. "I would never harm a Jewish soldier, but it won't be easy to get me out of here."

Cassandra, do you have any idea of the actual number of settlers removed by the army? It hasn't even been enough to prevent the settler population from growing- ever. In reality these settlements exist only because the Israeli army protects them.

So, the army is always "protecting civilians" from "terrorists" (whether its really Hamas attacking settlers, or simply the displaced families), even though the civilians are contravening Israeli law.

This is a continuing real time atrocity carried out in slow motion.

Well, those Hamas rockets travelled in pretty FAST motion.

Yes, Hamas is bad.

Well done, I'm so glad you are able to recognize that.

Now, can you recognize that the settlers are in effect forcibly displacing the current inhabitants?

Pay attention to the real history. Read the memoirs of Khaled Al-Azm, who was prime minister of Syria during the 1948 war. The so-called "Palestinians" are arabs who were pulled from their own homes by the Arab military prior to attempting the invasion and genocide of 1948. Most of these so-called "refugees" were then put back onto the land that ought to (by the original partition plan) have been theirs to start with, but the land had been "claimed" by the Arab genocide alliance countries (Lebanon, Syria, Transjordan, Iraq, Egypt) and the "Palestinians" were denied citizenship in the countries that now claimed their land, as a very transparent propaganda exercise.

By international law, there should be no "Palestinians" - they should all have citizenship in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Transjordan, or Egypt. Oh, but don't take my word for it. How about Zahir Muhsein, member of the PLO Committee?

" The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct "Palestinian people" to oppose Zionism.

For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan. "

By Israeli law a great deal of these settlements are illegal.

Oh, but don't take my word for it. How about the Israeli government itself?
