I would pick the Florida recount in 2000 and have them look at the ballots where people marked for one candidate then wrote in the name of that same candidate. Newspaper accounts said that Gore would have had a net gain of about 2,000 votes, more than enough to overcome the 537 vote margin that became the official tally.
