Our friends the polar bears?
by ASlyJD
What, pray tell, did the polar bears do to create this friendship? Give us a bottle of Coca-cola(tm)? They are wild animals and we are low fat protein to them.

Now, if you wish to imply that we have an obligation to maintain the sea ice so that they have a place to live, perhaps the phrase "our wards the polar bears" should be used. A thousand pound carnivore is not and never will be my "friend."

The term is used ominously.

The number of polar bears may be the largest or smallest ever to exist. We don't know. Census is difficult.

But they are sympathetic animals which can be used to force the EPA to take conterol of the US economy.

Without evidence but inder pressure, the EPA has already declared polar bears threatened. But the agency refused to take action on CO2. So now the Courts have been enlisted to declare polar bears endangered and countrywide regulation of CO2 the required steps to preserve the species.

If you want to take unpopular economic actions with global warming as the announced justification, the polar bear is very much your friend.

But if you want to preserve and continue improvements in human quality of life, he's a very threatening large carnivore.

So I guess global warming activists should go with "our poster children," "our propaganda tools," etc. It takes a very fuzzy thinker to consider an animal that kills and eats humans is a "friend." Wait, there are those who think our greatest problem is overpopulation. So I guess the polar bears are those folks' friends and allies.
