"Me" Generation Screws Itself Out of Retirement
by ctcadguy

Over the last decade the older Baby Boomers pushed deregulation so that they could sell thier homes for twice what they are really worth thus creating a huge housing bubble.

Too many Baby Boomers colllege grads obtained MBA degrees instead of Engineering and Manufacturing thus sending all the higher paid jobs overseas for essentially slave labor. Nice Job! These folks do not create wealth - they just move money and create things like credit swap derivatives.

A few benefitted tremendously while all generations paid through the nose in the form of high priced homes, no pension plans- instead ponzi schemes like 401k's and the fact that for the first time in the history of this country the young generations will do considerably worse than thier parents.

These same old farts have to drive gas guzzling trucks to work in an office and gamble thier money away at prolific rates just for a chance at the easy money.

PATHETIC!

This generation is aptly named "THE ME GENERATION".

Perhaps they deserve not to retire. People are living into thier 80's anyway so why should these folks expect to retire at 66.

Honestly though, I believe if the excessive greed did not occur these folks would be able to retire and the rest of us would be so much better off.

This generation has aptly earned it's reputation!

I'm planning to retire at 55...

which is on track, I might add. By retire, I mean quit working for the man, Mr. Charlie, as it were, and start consulting. And travel. Maybe buy a sail boat and just cruise.

KA

the possibilities are endless.

Good for you.

I bet you think people who cannot retire is a good thing.

Fascists love to watch people's dreams and aspirations die on a vine.

Your a sick puppy.

Is the economic decline really caused by a generational thing or by an ideological thing?

BTW, the Me generation was born from 1970s-1990s. It's not the boomers.
you mean like you?

wasn't that what your whole top post was about?

KA

jeez, CT, they say your short term memory is the second thing to go.

I'm semi-retired, and a front-runner of Baby Boomers (1946). I still have $750,000 in safe places, and a house I bought for $39,000 34 years ago. I'm not looking to sell it, but even in this down market, I've been offered $445,000 for it. Not a bad investment at all. I don't take Social Security, but I will when I'm 66, whether I need it or not. It's mine and I'm going to spend it. (Thanks FDR)

The "Me" Generation you referred to, was not prepared to retire even before the shit hit the fan. The average nest egg for 3,500 surveyed folks, over 55 year old, was $57,000!! What were those morons thinking about?

You see, I took care of "ME". I don't want a government hand-out. I really don't want this particular government, headed up by an empty suit, who has broken most of his promises for CHANGE, by putting Clinton retreads in high positions, and they in turn have put lobbists to work for them with a government job. Clinton, Biden, Summers, etc. etc. Same old, same old. "Change"...my ass. BHO is as full of shit as all the rest of those bags of wind in Washington.

I'll bet you my $445,000 house that your lord Obama does not have all the troops out of Iraq by April 2010. Moveon.org and George Soros are not going to be happy with that, they bought and paid to have their "man" in the White House. They want payback. Sorry boys, the eggplant put one over on you too.

The morons who voted for him were gulping the Flavor Ade, while sticking Gummy Bears up their noses on the short bus.

You don't want a government handout? Then I guess you'll refuse your Medicare.
