Every single word we type on KFS goes to Google.

I've known this for quite some time now and I assumed that everybody else knew too. From the most innocent to the most foul, they are all out there for the world to see. I will use one of my recent posts as an example. By entering your subject line and adding Slate at the end in Google search you can find anything you or anyone has written.

I searched for The history of Sea Soldiers. Slate

I found one of my recent posts at the top of the heap.

Our little KFS is much larger than you may think.

oh my god!

this is crazy

does that work for the other boards as well?

OK, so now we know all of our posts are linked to Google, will "others" be able to track our computers from the posts we make? does slate offer any protection?

this is most upsetting

Yes, Watcher, it has been common knowledge for some time. Any good search engine can find these posts, given the right search criteria. It's funny how so few know that once you put it on the web, it's there for all to see.

think that the "others" have something better to do than wonder what's being said on Slate

especially drivel like KFS
The_Watcher, as I recall we all discussed this right

after they changed the format on The Fray. Can't remember who pointed it out but a bunch of us had a grand old time looking up our stuff on Google.

When my kids were growing up I always tried to teach them to NEVER say anything they didn't mean. A lot of people do that when they're angry and then apologize later saying they hadn't meant it. I pointed out that an apology doesn't erase the memory or the hurt of it having been said. Now it looks as though it goes far beyond just unnecessarily hurting someone's feelings, it's a matter of record if it was said online. Hopefully they all remember what has proven to be sage advice.

BTW when I posted to JD about the Sea Soldier poster I had not seen that you had already found it and posted it. Didn't mean to step on your toes there but it sure did rattle JD's nerves.

This has been a well known fact ever since Slate switched over the last time.

One reason I do not name names in personal posts.

As to,"Drivel,'One person's drivel is another person's story. We have shared much on this board, and will again. The regulars have learned when to post and when to leave the name callers alone in all this shared misery!

As Boltlady said,(BTW,one of the brightest posters on the board.) She sees things long before many of us do.So those who do not want to deal with facts accuse her of posting conspiracies.

Gramps is the level headed one of the board. His posts are never off the wall.Simple common sense.Master Jay never wants to hurt any one's feelings. Imagine,a Cowboy with a big heart! Arkady never gets upset unless someone calls him a name, then he can give it back.

If anyone would be appointed Sheriff it would be Gramps, but there is not a Sheriff on this board. We are all little posting peons,no one above the other.

All of us need to look into ourselves and think if we are causing posters to leave. If you have no discussion, but simply want to taunt or name call, leave it alone, bite your tongue, think twice.

Hey thanks for the compliment MA.

Now I'm gonna be stuck in my lil' office. My head will be too big to get through the door;-)

As a co-worker used to say when she was about to say something bad about one of her friends,"Truth is truth!" I just leave out the bad part and give the good. We all know who the smart ones are:o)

I knew you weren't aware that I had posted the picture, you wouldn't have posted it again if you did. I've done the same thing myself a few times. All I could think of when I saw your repeat was how JD would respond. Salt in a wound came to mind. As usual, he didn't surprise me with his reaction. Sorry you had to put up with that Bolt.

The reason or reasons I posted this about our conversations being displayed on Google was out of concern for Loree. I thought maybe she didn't know that our posts immediatly go mainstream on Google and somehow thought Cat was involved. There might be more to it than I assumed when most here already knew of our links to Google. Secondly, I wanted to make some of our posters aware that their foul and/or disrespectful outbursts are now a memorial to them on the open internet. None of us should say anything we shouldn't be proud of.

Loree has had this explained to her [I did just last week] time and again but in her and her friends quest to get another poster she refuses to believe it. Sadly, it only make her look uninformed.

The old brick wall problem. I've searched for a passage through it to no avail. I've also tried to talk to the wall with hopes that it may allow me to pass through. Attempting to break through only resulted in making the wall less appealing, many scars were left behind from my attempts to pass forcibly but the barrier still remained and my body ached from my futile attempts to pass straight through.

I've now found out that it's often best to simply pass around it if I have a choice. The wall is much more tolerable if it doesn't bear the scars that would constantly remind me of my futile efforts to go through it.

This if fairly recent, but shouldn't come as much of a shock, given the way webcrawlers work. Besides, even before the webcrawlers started linking everything to Google, what we posted was always "at risk" of being chosen by the Freditor for his or her column, or by the columnist, and ending up on the Internet search engines that way.

And then sometimes stuff gets taken and cross-posted to other web pages by person unknown:

So, it was always best to assume that anything you post here could be read by anyone, anywhere, anytime.
