neglected reason #1 for no GOP support
by is still think
I would have liked to have seen this article include the most obvious reason republicans declined to support the stimulus offered to them last night. It is a pay-out bill to a host of organizations that will do nothing to stimulate the economy, but may reward them for supporting the democratic candidates in the recent elections. It's a bill that provides a handy guise for Obama--as Rahm Emanuel put it, this economic turn-down provides an excellent opportunity for Obama to pass a cushy number of his liberal agendas, all under the cover of a 'necessary stimulus plan.' Liberal organizations, such as ACORN who benefits by $4.19 billion as a result of this stimulus, really have nothing to do with helping our economy. $400 million for global warming research? When we have unprecedented cold fronts, ice and snow storms? This bill is a joke. It's chock-full of pork--at least 30% of the spending involved is pure, unadulterated pork. The reason no republicans voted for this bill is not so they could appear to stand against the charming Obama until they think it's safe to cave. Republicans rejected this laughable attempt at a stimulus plan because they're not in a joking mood.

"ACORN who benefits by $4.19 billion as a result of this stimulus"

In a word, bullshit.

Good Grief, you people! the ACORN crap is a LIE

In a January 27 Hill article, staff writer Jared Allen repeated the false Republican claim that the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) is, in Allen's words, a "beneficiar[y] of the stimulus package" currently under consideration in Congress. Allen also uncritically reported National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) communications director Ken Spain's false suggestion that the stimulus bill includes "a $4.2 billion bailout" for ACORN. As Media Matters for America has documented, the bill does not mention ACORN or otherwise single it out for funding and requires that the $4.19 billion it allocates for "neighborhood stabilization activities" be distributed through competitive processes. Additionally, the Drudge Report linked to a January 27 FoxNews.com article that had the misleading headline: "Republicans Object to Stimulus Dollars for ACORN."

There is enough information out there to support that, even if ACORN doesn't end up receiving $4.19 billion, they defnitely are being considered. I don't think any of us are privy to everything included in the final draft of the bill, yet.

Regardless, the fact remains that the stimulus plan is filled with billions of dollars of spending that will do NOTHING to help the economy. How does $50 million for the National Endowment of the Arts help people pay their mortgages?

It's so easy to toss around warnings such as 'if we don't pass this bill, we'll go deeper into recession'. Proven fact, or fear mongering? We've already heard during the presidential campaigns, inaccurately, that we're in the worst economy since the Great Depression. Actually, at that point anyway, it was the 4th worst. But you get people to believe it's the worst, you get them into a state of fear, and then they decide that they need you to help them. Nietzsche talked about the masses needing a leader, kind of like sheep needing a shepherd. The Will to Power. Interesting, huh?

You are right on. It is loaded with every pet project from every democratic rep.'s wish list. They see it as taking their best shot while they can.

Rahm Emanuel said it best..."Never let a perfectly good crisis go to waste"...Words to live by, hunh?

You "no-we-can't bittches forget that 68 million voted for Obama...and one-third of them were YOUR FOLKS. In fact 53% of registered Republicans...(that's Republicans, not you Rich-Ving fuckers)...think he's doing just fine thank you/

If there is one thing to learn from the playground, it's never to listen to a bully. And in the world of blogs and discussion board, clearvoice, those who use vulgar, profane, offensive language are bullies. Your ideas just lost all credibility to me because you have no idea how to communicate.
