Some see the glass as half empty...

I saw that it's neither half empty or half full, rather it's a matter of what the last state the glass was in. If the glass had been previously half full, then I would say that it's now half emptied and vice versa. It also applies to what the desirable state of the glass is. What is the glass a symbol of? My basement? My basement is half full of water? That's not good. It's all a matter of perspective.

When Obama first started out, he was this radical thing. Not only was he far left (read supposed to be really smart) he was also supposed to be athletic and cool, two things that far lefties almost never are. So it's understandable that people in the press would fawn in the same way that the skinny kid from My Bodyguard hid behind Ricky Linderman. There were friends of mine who openly challenged my sanity for not being bowled over by this, I'm sorry, empty suit. Some even talked about holding an intervention for me.

But he was so vague. He gave these "really great" speeches that made college girls weep, and MSM reporters legs tingle. Most of the questions that were asked of him were really easy, no big deal softball types. Pictures were taken of Obama that seemed to liken him to Superman. Just about the entire media salivated over him, openly. So naturally he won.

And now for each day of the current week, (the second of his admin) there has been a semi audible hiss of hot air leaking out of the Obama balloon. And Slate's been leading the charge. Yes, failure is an option. You know, I never thought of that! Gee, thanks.

Do you mean to say that Obama isn't going to fly around the world really fast and make time go backwards and right the "wrongs" of the Bush era??? Why, he's not even far left anymore, is he? What does that make him? A former jock with a law degree? Great.

I feel like the last person alive in a zombie movie.

with you, and as Obama's rapidly deflating image piddles on the cold stone floor I AM NOT going to allow all those Obama worshipers, who rammed him down this nation's throat, forget that they were the non-thinking assholes that shafted this nation this time around.

Good top post. Thanks.

I don't agree with the stimulus plan in anyway, it is nothing more then a bloated spending bill that will do little or nothing to actually stimulate the economy in any real way. When or if it is ever passed I hope I am wrong but I think we are about to flush 800 billion down the toilet. So it goes.

Having said that, you guys and your gleeful cheering in rush to declare our new President a failure (thats right "our" President, he did win just thought I would remind you) is a little nauseating. I did not vote for him either but I will be dammed if I turn into something that is akin to the mindless hating Bush drones that I had to put up with every day for eight years.

Unlike many, I cannot speak to whether the faithful thought Obama was a messiah or not. I know that I'm not the smartest person in the room and I never thought he was our savior. I did think he was a whole lot smarter than our last Prez, however.

So, our last administration, under the guise of being honest about "the long war" and the "global struggle" set the bar so low it was almost impossible to hear any hiss of escaping expectations. I am at least smart enough to understand that failure is always, always and option, I don't need my government telling me that they can't help.

As a military supervisor I found that most plans fail as soon as the first low ranking person starts bad-mouthing it. The failure mentality spreads like wildfire. My job often involved simply getting people on board, to support a plan or to at least shut up about how they think it will fail. Realistic expectations are one thing, bitching and moaning is something entirely different.

I am deeply afraid this stimulus package is doomed. I find it odd that Republicans supported George W.'s crappy stimulus package but hate this one. I haven't heard one single plan that has any better chance of helping the economy or not plunging more people into joblessness and pain. I'm old enough to know things typically get worse before they get better and I'm pretty sure that no living human being knows where the bottom of this downturn is. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only American who understands the risks.

Don't confuse those of us who were just so relieved to have a well-spoken President who wouldn't humilate the US on the world stage with college girls that wept. I don't need a president with a codpiece, I need a president with a vocabulary. I'll celebrate what the election of the first peson of color to the presidency means to the US while understanding he is most definitely going to fail at many things.

It does me no earthly good if my president floats a plan and then tells me he doesn't believe in it. Like it or not, cheerleading is part of being a leader. George Bush said, go shopping, crude but true. Obama is simply saying the same thing in a more articulate way.

It even sucks to read him.

Why does it suck to read me? Am I Slate? They're the ones who inflated him so much in the first place, not me. I was grounding him from the get go, which is a good thing for the non psychotic.

Not YOU! I was agreeing with you. Demcon. It sucks to read Demcon.

It really makes you wonder doesn't it. And after everyone wanted "an honest politician" too.

He is being honest people. It may not be what we want to hear, but it's still true.

This is a MESS and it will take time to get the urine out of that glass. It's half full all right, just not with water.

It seemed to me that the there was more "mindless" Bush lovers than Bush haters. Those that supported Bush despite all of the "thoughtful" critiques.

It seems like a whole lot of people "mindlessly" followed the Bush line about WMD's in Iraq.

Everywhere I have turned in the last 8 years, I have seen thoughtful repudiations of harmful Bush policies railed against by "mindless" automotons towing the republican party lines.
