What Applebaum really can't deal with...

along with the rest of the O-bots is that not everyone is on their knees worshipping their messiah. Do I hope Obama does well, sure, for the sake of this country. He's going to be treated better by Republicans then Bush was treated by Democrats. But, not everyone is just going to rollover for anything he wants nor should they.

Perhaps you are suffering Bush-withdrawal symptoms. Bush told us he'd been instructed by God to start his war (and, we suppose, to continue his vacation during Katrina). His adoring proles all happily gobbled down the neocon notion that difficult, complex decisions can be made on the bases of "gut", as opposed to information, thought, and reflection.

So, naturally, it must seem bizarre to you, living in a Bushless world, where a president appears to (gulp!) think about hard problems. And, we suppose you are just baffled that so many American voters have actually noticed how terribly the Bush cult damaged our country.

Well, EbenCooke, it actually appears that you are suffering from being a Hater. Why dont you address the point of the post, instead of trying to sling mud. Bush, love him or hate him, is GONE. Try to move your mind into the present.
You don't get it

The president is supposed to be a moral entity whose views and decisions reflect those of Main Street.

Presidents are not supposed to be experts. The US government employs tens of thousands of experts in everything from foreign policy to defence to the economy. Their job is to do the president's bidding.

A good, dumb president is preferable to a highly intelligent president with no morality. Contrast Ronald Reagan with Vladimir Putin.

We all know that Obama is a very smart guy. What we don't know is whether he is a very good guy. It's a shame that his supporters don't realise the latter qualification is vastly more important than the former one.

You can't blame EbenCooke for hating Bush or the so-called O-bots for their overenthusiasm. All that comes from the taste which Bush & Co. left in so many people's mouths.

I fully understand. Any whiff of Insufficient Reverence for a Bush must obviously be a form of "derangement". Why, heck! I'm so dern deranged I don't even like Bush's war, or his smirking about torture... or even his economy. Count me in with the legions of "deranged" Americans who actually hope to see a successful administration that can start to undo the damage.

There was no "point" in the original post, just the same attacks that Proudinfidel makes every day.

Isn't funny how a poster who responds to a post that called other people "O-bots" and says they worship him as a messiah is labeled a hater? Well, maybe not funny. Just sadly ironic.

I think you missed the point that the foreigners who are tearing Obama down have a vested interest in seeing that this man does not become seen as a "messiah" by the general populations of those countries - notably, Russia, China, and the Islam world. Both sides of the aisle (American pols) have clearly stated often, and for a long time now, that winning the hearts and minds of the majority of the populations in these countries, is the ultimate goal for long term success. To see their leaders reacting "in fear" is a good sign, whetther you like Obama or not. In fact, I find it a much more refreshing and less fearful rhetoric Obama is using than when Bush hit Washington running with the Axis of Evil tripe, that whether or not anyone realizes it, probably help set a stage, and ultimately launch a war.

We don't know if Obama is a good guy? Yes we do.

Did we know that Bush was a bad guy before he became president? Yes we did. Or at least the evidence was available.

Just look at Obama's life and background and family and friends and you will find that Yeah, he appears to be a good guy.

But I don't think that matters. I think what is important is to never again fill the white house with an idealouge. Obama does not appear to be stuck in a rigid pattern of thought that he filters all experiences and decisions through, like Bush was.

Aw c'mon....Obama is TOO a bad guy, there is plenty of evidence dammit! Why during the campaign McCain supporters made it clear that he is a ...socialist! And also...an ARAB! And we all know that socialist arabs are the worst sort of people on earth, right?
