More than the lyrics
by Zarniwoop

This was an interesting discussion of someone's music without actually discussing the music - only the lyrics. I expect that the author thinks that the members of Rush are horrible artists becasue the lyrics aren't the greatest - even though instrumentally all three are considered virtuosoes with their respective instruments.

I was going to post the same thing, but thought I'd look first and see if anyone else noticed this. It's sort of a ridiculous endeavor to take the measure of someone working in the pop/rock world by focusing exclusively on lyrical content. Beyond that, the cherry-picking nature of the article's examples makes for a specious thesis, to say the least. And I can't stand Billy Joel, for the most part.

He didn't even go in depth as to why the lyrics were bad, just hanging his hat on how they reflected "unearned contempt." Uh, okay. Douche.
